🌟 FGIDC Virtual: Hand Sewing Alterations- Getting Your Holiday Fits to Fit

🪡Join Fashion Group International of DC (FGIDC) for a beginner-friendly virtual hand sewing workshop with guest host Ashalé Amos, fashion designer, wardrobe designer, and sewing educator.

Have an outfit you want to wear for the holidays, but the hem needs fixing, a button is loose, or there's a small repair you've been putting off? Ashalé will demonstrate practical hand sewing techniques to help you repair, maintain, and make simple alterations to your clothing, all without a sewing machine.

📍Event Details:
Date: Wednesday, November 4, 2026
Time: 7:00–8:00 PM ET
Location: Virtual via Zoom

🧵 What You'll Learn:
Essential hand stitches for repairs and alterations
How to properly sew on a button
Techniques for securing hems and repairing small openings
Simple alterations to improve the fit and wearability of clothing

This is a hands-on workshop, so grab your supplies and follow along from home! No sewing experience or sewing machine required. Bring a garment that needs a small repair or adjustment.

What to Bring:
- Hand-sewing needle and all-purpose thread
- Small sewing scissors
- Straight pins or sewing clips
- Seam ripper
- Measuring tape or ruler
- 1–2 spare buttons
- Scrap fabric or an old garment for practice
- One garment needing a simple repair or alteration

Optional: Tailor's chalk or fabric marking pencil, thimble

Open to all FGIDC Members and non-members.

Join FGIDC for Dressing Worlds: Script to Stitch — The Costume Design Process with visionary costume designer Eugene Simms.

Eugene will take us behind the scenes of the costume design process, exploring how script analysis, research, historical and cultural references, fabric, color, silhouette, and construction all come together to create a character’s wardrobe while telling their story.

The presentation will be followed by a live Q&A.

We’re excited to share an upcoming designer opportunity in partnership with the Congressional Polo Club in Poolesville and Habitat for Humanity for their Annual Match Day on Saturday, September 26.

Applications are now open for designers in our network who are interested in showcasing their work at this special event. We are looking for designers who can provide full looks, including models and HMUA.
