Our client joined other activists to drive reforms at Perdue Farms to prevent more chickens from living in filthy, overcrowded conditions and struggling to stand or walk without pain.

However, Perdue still attempts to retaliate against him.

Yesterday, Perdue Farms filed a federal lawsuit challenging corporate whistleblowing cases.

This could demolish protections for food safety, aviation safety, shareholder fraud, and even environmental protection.

Let's go over the story⬇️

The challenge stems from an ongoing case involving our client Craig Watts, a former Perdue chicken grower who exposed dire conditions despite claims they're “humanely raised.”

His story blew up, and inspired books and even movies.

After making his disclosures, Watts filed a whistleblower complaint, alleging retaliation by Perdue.

However, Perdue seeks to block the DOL's administrative proceedings as unconstitutional.

If Perdue’s claim holds, the case will dismantle the administrative process that has long provided accessible justice for whistleblowers.

Perdue is trying to destroy a framework designed to provide justice for who lack the resources for expensive lawsuits.

We're at the forefront of developing and defending their rights.

We will mount a vigorous defense to reject Perdue’s attempt to deny those who suffer retaliation the remedies that Congress has enacted.

We're asking Congressional leaders to oppose legislation that would delay the implementation of the FDA’s final rule on the FDA Food Traceability Rule because it would:

"Delay long overdue implementation of the Food Traceability Final Rule and undermine the integrity of the 2010 Food Safety Modernization Act.

Doing so would jeopardize public health and safety by impeding transparency and accountability in our food supply chain, once more underscoring the outsized enforcement role of whistleblowers.”

We joined other civil society organizations in a statement challenging a North Carolina law attempting to ban employees from recording undercover videos at work, despite being essential to uncovering wrongdoing in animal rights and food safety industries.

Now, the state has agreed to pay their $885,000 legal bills.

Other states have had to pay similar settlements over such “ag-gag laws,” pushed by the agricultural industry in response to exposés from inside factory farms, but this is four times larger than any other settlement in a huge win for farmers.

NC must pay big for defending its Anti-Sunshine/Ag-Gag law all the way to SCOTUS. Public funds should serve the public good, not Big Ag's interests.

Congratulations to Farm Stand for their excellent work!

"It didn't have to be this way. Today’s news should serve as a serious warning to other states defending or considering passing an Ag-Gag or Anti-Sunshine Law: defend Big Ag’s interests to the detriment of the health, safety, and civil liberties of your citizens, and you’ll be choosing to do s...
