For more than a decade, Evermore has been working to improve how we support people through grief.

In partnership with The National Center for Fatality Review and Prevention, we’ve created a guide to help community leaders and care providers better support families following the death of a child.

The guide contains fact sheets detailing best practices tailored to 13 different leadership roles within communities, including first responders, educators, employers, medical care teams, and more.

We’ve shared half of them – have you seen one that resonates with your work yet? Stay tuned over the next several weeks as we continue to highlight these roles and share key insights to support those who support others. Explore the guide:

Welcome to part six of our thirteen-part “Community Leaders Spotlight” series! Our sixth group is Hospital Providers and Staff. Hospital staff are among the first professionals to come face-to-face with patients’ families and friends during a crisis and immediately after a death. These interactions can have a powerful and lasting impact on the bereavement of their patients’ families and friends in both the short- and long-term.

For practical tips and resources for hospital staff interacting with bereaved individuals, access our fact sheet:

Support can take many forms – sometimes, it’s delicious!
It’s not too late to purchase treats from See’s Candy and help raise money for bereavement care. Every purchase through this link will help Evermore achieve its goal of improving bereavement care through community support, scientific research, and commonsense policy change.

Our work helps ensure that bereaved individuals and families are met with care, understanding, and meaningful support as they cope with loss.

Support the cause before June 22, 2026 – and enjoy your See’s!

Welcome to part five of our thirteen-part “Community Leaders Spotlight” series! Our fifth group is Emergency Department Providers and Staff. Emergency department staff will witness traumatic and unexpected deaths at a higher frequency than the general population, and they often interact with newly bereaved families and friends during a crisis and in the immediate aftermath of tragedy. Their compassion and care in these difficult moments can make all the difference for their patients’ family and friends.

For practical tips and resources for emergency room staff interacting with bereaved individuals, access our fact sheet:

Memorial Day gives Americans an opportunity to honor and reflect on those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.

As you gather with loved ones this weekend, remember that, for many, this day carries grief, remembrance, and reflection. At Evermore, we aim to make life more livable for all bereaved people, and today we hold in mind those grieving the loss of the men and women who fought for our freedoms.

Our recent blog post Saluting the Burgess Family: A Gold Star Story for Memorial Day tells just one powerful story of millions. We hope you find comfort and hope in reading it today:

________

This Memorial Day, America salutes Terry and Beth Burgess — Gold Star parents who lost their son Bryan in Afghanistan and built a community for military families carrying the same loss.

It’s not too late to share your experience with Evermore today, from noon to 2PMEST, at our Lived Experience Bereavement Research Network (LEBRN) meeting!

For too long, bereavement research has failed to give bereaved people a voice and to incorporate the real-world factors that matter to grieving people, especially to their health and well-being.

But you can help us change that! Your input will aid researchers in developing bereavement care models and interventions – so come share your experiences, opinions, and insights to inform future bereavement research:

Welcome to part four of our thirteen-part “Community Leaders Spotlight” series! Our fourth group is Reporters, the Media, and Influences. Giving a voice to grief is an enormous opportunity and responsibility, and it must be done with great care. The media must convey facts about a significant event while also being sensitive toward the newly bereaved family – a difficult, but achievable, balance to strike.

For practical tips and resources for media members interacting with individuals after the death of a child, access our factsheet:
