NEW REPORT IN THE SOUTH:
📉 From the near doubling of excess deaths nationwide to the destabilizing effects of climate disasters, Southerners acutely feel the shockwaves of the Covid pandemic — as well as the crises and policies that compound people’s suffering. This report is a timely tool for policymakers as they use federal funds to address these and other challenges.

Proud to partner with Southern Economic Advancement Project & Fair Count on this effort.

For decades, the American South has lagged on nearly every indicator of prosperity and equity. But the region has the potential to generate groundbreaking solutions to entrenched problems that lead the way for the entire nation.

"The democratic structures we have now, such as majority voting, lifetime appointments, and archaic levels of representation, operate by even cruder rules than many algorithms....These badly need to be updated."

"As we get ready to mark July 4, and as faces its most serious threats in generations, we should consider how we can capitalize on our best democratic impulses to strengthen government, civil society, and all our institutions."

Democracy requires all institutions, including foundations, to create settings that enable more than experts and power brokers to control the agenda.

What if every American was registered to vote, voted in every election, and served in other roles as an active citizen? To elevate voter turnout and active citizenship, we need many different building blocks, and we need to understand how voter education affects turnout, how daily civic activities build civic habits, and what kinds of supports are most valuable to voter outreach organizations.

NCoC is partnering with ActiVote US, a dynamic voter education tool, to explore these questions and more. Join us at 2pm ET on Thursday, May 12th to learn more about the tool, how it is designed to help voters and voter outreach organizations, and how you can participate in this joint research effort.

REGISTER:

Join us for a collaborative session with ActiVote to increase voter turnout and identify building blocks and tools to make it happen.
