The SAVE ACT doesn't save any of us. In fact it harms us. Here are just five ways that it inflicts harm:

1. Purges millions of Americans from voter rolls
2. Kills online, mail, and motor voter registration.
3. Rejects commons IDs to register to vote.
4. Forces Americans to register in person.
5. Penalizes married women who changed their last names.

Civil Rights activist Myrlie Evers-Williams was born in 1933. This Vicksburg, Mississippi, native was an honor student at the HBCU Alcorn A&M College. While enrolled, she met and married Medgar Evers.

The couple opened and managed the first NAACP Mississippi State office and lived under constant threat of violence and death. Medgar was assassinated outside of the family’s home in Jackson, Mississippi in 1963. Following her husband’s murder, Evers-Williams continued to advocate for voting rights, economic stability, fair housing, equal education and equal justice.

In 1976 she told the Los Angeles Sentinel that she feared the progress made in previous generations could be lost if people did not take action. “It appears that attitudes have changed and those rights we fought and died for are being taken away from us,” she said.

Evers-Williams published her autobiography “Watch Me Fly: What I Learned on the Way to Becoming the Woman I Was Meant to Be” (1999). Additionally, she edited a book of her late husband’s journals, speeches, and letters, titled, “The Autobiography of Medgar Evers: A Hero's Life and Legacy Revealed Through His Writings, Letters, and Speeches" in 2005.

Incumbent Congressman Bennie Thompson has won the Democratic primary for Mississippi’s 2nd Congressional District, positioning him to return to Washington as the longest-serving Black Democrat in Mississippi history.

Thompson, who has represented the majority-Black district since 1993, defeated his Democratic challengers in the primary election. With the district historically voting Democratic, his primary victory makes him the clear favorite heading into the general election.

During his decades in Congress, Thompson has been a powerful voice in Congress. He currently serves as the ranking member of the House Homeland Security Committee and previously chaired the committee during the investigation into the January 6 United States Capitol attack.

The Mississippi Delta-based district he represents stretches across much of western Mississippi and has long been considered one of the state’s most politically significant seats for Black voters.

If reelected in November, Thompson will continue a congressional tenure that has spanned more than three decades.
