🌏Rights-based, community-led research is the future of equitable development!
Last week marked the first ever RRI & PACT (Pathways Alliance for Change + Transformation) workshop to strategize on new locally-led research projects that center Indigenous, Afro-descendant, and local methodologies and lived experiences.
The workshop was built around a big idea: community-based research lays the ground for the most rigorous scientific findings that can inspire actionable development solutions and climate resilience.
Guided by RRI Board member Professor Kyle Whyte, a member of the Citizen Potawatomi Nation, Indigenous, Afro-descendant, and local community researchers from RRI’s global coalition presented new research ideas and strategized on increasing their impact and global reach through creative collaborations across communities and continents.
The workshop was preceded by a remarkable gathering at the University of Brasilia, a key player in the growing global academic movement for locally-led research. RRI brought together researchers from Asia, Africa, and the Americas with their Brazilian counterparts to share their experiences in decolonizing and reclaiming Indigenous and community-led research.
