Today is International Level Crossing Awareness Day (ILCAD).

Crossings connect communities. They require everyone's attention. At every crossing, slow down, look both ways and cross only when it is clear.

Always expect a train. Trains are quieter and faster than you think.

Make safe choices at every crossing. Save this and share it with someone who crosses the tracks every day.

Every crossing deserves your full attention.

Trains can't stop quickly. A freight train can take more than a mile to stop, even in an emergency.

When you reach a crossing:

Always expect a train.
Never go around gates.
Cross only when the signs and signals are clear.
Make safe choices. See Tracks? Think Train!®

Harvest season means long days, familiar routes and frequent trips between fields, grain elevators and ag facilities. Remember: rail lines serving agricultural communities are active rail lines. Always expect a train on any track, at any time, in either direction. As you plan your harvest routes, be prepared for railroad crossings along the way. Slow down, look and listen, obey all signs and signals and never assume a track is inactive just because you don't see a train.

Got a new driver in the family? Summer means more time behind the wheel. It's important that teens - and drivers of all ages - use caution when driving near railroad crossings. Know the signs. Always expect a train. See tracks? Think train.

oday is World Bicycle Day. Before your family rides near tracks, teach them the rules. Always look both ways before crossing. If possible, walk, don't ride across and always cross at a 90-degree angle. Narrow bike wheels can get caught. Trains are quieter and faster than you think. Make safe choices on every ride.

Delivery drivers, you carry more than food and packages. You carry the choice to stop safely at every rail crossing. Pizza runs. Grocery drop-offs. Takeout. Same-day shipments. According to FRA, the time you save by rushing a crossing is not worth the risk. You are more important than the delivery. Slow down. Look both ways. Never stop on tracks.

A crossing you know well can still be dangerous. Make safe choices every time you cross.
