One of the major reasons for the summit was to pressure Congress to pass, H.R. 631, which d would establish a base minimum wage for tipped employees, like waiters. The current base wage per hour for tipped workers is $2.13 per hour. The bill looks to increase that wage to at least $5.50 by 2013 for tipped workers.

The Restaurant Opportunities Center of Los Angeles (ROC-LA) with similar organizations in Miami and Washington, D.C., celebrated the release of two new labor reports earlier this month.
