Are you a college student studying art & science? Would you like a free membership to GNSI for a year? If so, apply now for the Donald B. Sayner Student Scholarship! Each year, one student is chosen to receive a free membership with access to the Journal of Natural Science Illustration and other members-only benefits.

Donald B. Sayner taught scientific illustration at the University of Arizona Biological Sciences Department for over 35 years. Thousands of students who loved science and art took his classes, and many went on to careers in a variety of scientific disciplines. Sayner was a passionate teacher, and this scholarship is to honor his legacy.

In one month, On the Edge of the Pacific: Exhibition Celebrating Coastal California opens at the Grove Museum of Natural History.

September 16, 2026 – January 3, 2027
On the Edge of the Pacific is a solo exhibition by Monica Loncola celebrating life along coastal California and the Baja Peninsula. Inspired by the return of the Western Flyer to the Sea of Cortez, the exhibition commemorates the 85th anniversary of the 1940 voyage by Ed Ricketts and John Steinbeck, documented in Steinbeck's The Sea of Cortez.

For those of you who can't make it t Maine, I have two virtual workshops coming up. The first is hosted through the Guild of Natural Science Illustrators and is this coming weekend. The workshop is full, but you can add your name to the wait list. The second workshop will be September 19th and 20th, and you can enroll in that one directly through my website. Both workshops are titled "Illustrating Fishes—History and Techniques," and both are a total of eight hours split over two days. If you have questions, feel free to reach out. I hope to have the opportunity to work with you!

A Stand of Artists: The Art and Science of Animal Collectives
August 29 – Oct 2, 2026
Trumansburg Conservatory of Fine Arts (TCFA)
Opening Reception: August 29 from 4–6 pm
Gallery hours: Fridays and Sundays 1- 5 pm

Sketch With the Artists & Techniques Demonstration
Sept 13 from 1–3 pm at TCFA
Open to the public, all are welcome! Art supplies provided or bring your own. Natural science specimens as subjects to sketch will be available as well as live owls in the care of Marsha Zgola, a certified wildlife rehabilitator.
