This fall, turn your walk in the woods (or around the park) into something bigger. Pledge a fundraising hike for and help fund scientific research and conserve wilderness trails.

It's free to join and open to hikers of every experience level — no experience or fitness level required, just a willingness to get outside and make a difference.

58 years ago today, President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the National Trails System Act, which established the Appalachian Trail and the Pacific Crest Trail as National Scenic Trails. Since 1968, 30 more trails have been added to the National Trails System! The National Trails cross wild, rural, and urban spaces across the United States. Join PNTS in celebrating this anniversary by getting out on a National Trail near you!

REI made a historic donation of $1 million to support our public lands, use your vote to decide where it goes!

This donation will fund non-profit trail organizations across the country that support more than 60,600 miles of National Scenic and National Historic Trails.

Through the vote, a total of $500,000 will be distributed among projects aligned with the advocacy, stewardship, and education categories, with each category receiving a portion based on the percentage of votes it receives. Use your vote to put your love for public lands into real, tangible action!

Please join us in welcoming National Historic Trails Fellow, Katie Roberts, to the Trails Community.

Katie will be joining the Santa Fe Trail Association as a Historic Trail Preservation Fellow.

Katie is a conservation biologist and lifelong explorer with a passion for connecting people with landscapes and the stories that make places meaningful. She holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree in biology, with research focused on the Florida scrub lizard and experience in field ecology, habitat conservation, wildlife research, and GIS. She enjoys finding connections between fieldwork, technology, and storytelling to make conservation more accessible and engaging.
