Bike Month may be over, but we’re not slowing down a bit in the fight for a better transportation system. We’re rallying in defense of Hains Point, just like we did for 15th Street; preparing to get continued improvements on Braddock Road (where we just got protected bike lanes passed!); and pushing for extension of the Hyattsville Trolley Trail to DC. We’re thrilled to announce the return of an exciting event coming this month: the Bike to the BBQ Battle! So mark your calendars for June 27th, 2026 and get ready for a day of biking, delicious food, and fantastic music, all in support of a great cause. All proceeds support WABA!

$15 gets you access to the festival, line-skip privileges for entry, cool swag, secure bike parking with the Bike Valet DMV, and more. So join us for a fun and scenic 10-mile ride through the city, culminating in a lively festival near the National Mall—the Giant BBQ Battle.

Washington DC helped build something powerful.

WABA is proud to partner with as Ride For Your Life returns to DC on November 15, 2026.

What began as a response to tragedy has grown into a movement—bringing people together to honor lives lost to traffic violence, demand safer streets, and turn grief into action.

This year marks a major next step: Ride For Your Life is now a nonprofit working to grow this movement city by city.

Ride For Your Life events have already helped inspire stronger advocacy, safer infrastructure, and real policy change.

Join a purposeful ride, walk, and rally at the Capitol Building this November. Registration opens in July.

Visit rideforyourlife.org to bookmark the date, learn more, and help grow this movement. Support will help expand Ride For Your Life to more cities and strengthen advocacy efforts nationwide.

Happy Bike Month! May is a wonderful time where we uplift everything biking, including National Ride a Bike Day this past Sunday and Bike to Work Day next week.

Join WABA, DC YIMBYs, and the Ward 8 Bike Alliance for a DC Ward 8 community-advocacy ride on May 16. RSVP at waba.org/event/ward-8-ride .

We’ll visit recently redeveloped sites in Ward 8 – possibly DC’s most underinvested ward – and locations of planned/potential future growth. We’ll launch at 1:30 pm from the Congress Heights Metro station, with the fabulous Anacostia River Festival, which runs 2-6 pm that afternoon, as our final destination. The ride’s about 9 miles, casual pace, no drop, with some fantastic DC views along the route. Join us!
