Women for Women International Helping women survivors of war and conflict rebuild their lives.
(1242)

Through direct support, skills training, rights education, and a sisterhood of healing, women learn to lead change — even in the most difficult circumstances. Since 1993, Women for Women International has served over 616,000 marginalized women in countries affected by war and conflict. We offer survivors of war the training, tools, and networks of support necessary to

move from crisis and poverty to stability and economic self-sufficiency. After learning to earn and save money, improve health and well-being, and influence decisions in their home, survivors are able to create sustainable change for themselves, their families, and their communities. We are corking to create a world in which all women determine the course of their lives and reach their full potential.

*Content warning: This post discusses sexual violence in conflict. Please read with care.

Statistics show the scale. Stories reveal the human cost.

Conflict-related sexual violence is used as a weapon of war to terrorise, control, and destroy communities. Behind every number is a life forever changed.

This CRSV Awareness Day, we stand with every survivor.

As eastern DRC faces a deadly Ebola outbreak, we are mobilizing our trusted community network to help stop the spread of the disease and protect women and their families.

A key part of our response is combating misinformation. Fear, rumors, and conspiracy theories can prevent people from recognizing symptoms, seeking treatment, and taking the steps needed to keep their communities safe. Through trusted local relationships and community-led outreach, we are helping ensure accurate, life-saving information reaches the people who need it most.

Our response also includes:

📻 Radio broadcasts and awareness campaigns that educate communities about Ebola prevention and symptoms

💵 Emergency cash stipends to help women and families cope with lost income and economic disruption

💧 Community handwashing and sanitation stations that support critical prevention measures

For women already navigating conflict, displacement, and poverty, an Ebola outbreak can threaten both lives and livelihoods. By combining trusted information, practical support, and community engagement, we are helping women protect their families and strengthen their communities' resilience.

Donate today to help women and families access the resources, information, and support they need to prevent the spread of Ebola and respond to this growing crisis: https://bit.ly/4vYKJ4V

When discussing forced displacement, words matter.

Although asylum seekers, refugees, and internally displaced people often share experiences of loss, uncertainty, and resilience, these terms have distinct meanings and legal implications.

Using the correct language helps us better understand the challenges displaced people face and the protections available to them.

Conflict-driven displacement has reached a historic high.

In 2025, more than 32 million new internal displacements were caused by conflict and violence, surpassing displacement caused by natural disasters for the first time on record.

Behind these figures are families navigating loss, uncertainty, and the challenge of rebuilding their lives. Women often face the greatest barriers, making long-term support, economic opportunities, and community resilience more important than ever. Click the link https://bit.ly/3Qrkrt0 to know more.

For many women around the world, dignity is not something freely given. It is something defended, protected, and reclaimed every day.

In Persepolis, Marjane Satrapi shared a deeply personal story of growing up mid conflict, repression, and uncertainty. Through it all, she returned to a simple but powerful truth: staying true to yourself is an act of courage.

Marjane Satrapi left us, but her story and the changes made will forever stay.

Some moments remind us just how powerful an opportunity can be.

In Yei River County, South Sudan, women are celebrating their graduation from the Stronger Women, Stronger Nations program after 12 months of sisterhood, learning, growth, and resilience.

This milestone is about more than completing a program. It represents new skills, greater confidence, and the beginning of new possibilities.

Here's to the women of Yei River County and the brighter futures they are building.

Millions of women have the ambition, skills, and determination to grow their businesses, but many remain stuck in the informal sector because they can’t access finance. A major barrier is the misconception among financiers that investing in women is risky.

Our International CEO, Thelma Ekiyor, recently spoke to Retha Jae about the need to provide growth capital that helps women in conflict-affected areas grow their businesses and create jobs.

Thank you, , for this opportunity as we launch a new social investing vehicle Ziza to bridge this gap and power a new generation of women entrepreneurs.

Women survivors of conflict are building economies.

Every day, women across Africa are growing businesses, supporting families, and creating opportunities for their communities. Yet many remain excluded from traditional financial systems.

Ziza Social Investing was created to help change that — connecting capital with women entrepreneurs and investing in the growth, resilience, and potential they already embody.

Whether you are an investor, philanthropic partner, business leader, or supporter, we invite you to join us. Together, we can unlock the potential of women entrepreneurs and help build a more resilient future for communities affected by conflict. Visit the link https://bit.ly/4fu1Iai to learn more.

For most of her life, Lyop believed what she had been taught — that a woman’s place was at home, and that her voice didn’t matter.

But when she chose to run for leadership in her community, she refused to stay silent, despite ridicule and pressure to step aside.

“Women’s voices matter. It is inhumane to silence us.”

Because Lyop stood firm, women were finally included in decision-making. Today, she supports survivors and mentors girls who dream of becoming leaders themselves.

She didn’t just find her voice — she opened the door for others. 💛
