Volunteer Spotlight: Advanced Dermatology

This past weekend, Veterans on the Rise was grateful to welcome a dedicated group of volunteers from Advanced Dermatology in Alexandria for a day of service at our facility.

The team spent the day working on several hands-on projects, including painting exterior walls and doors around the property. Their work helped refresh key areas of the campus and created a cleaner, more welcoming environment for the veterans we serve.

Volunteer projects like this play an important role in helping us maintain and improve our facilities so we can stay focused on our mission: supporting veterans as they transition to stable housing, employment, and independent living.

We are incredibly thankful to the Advanced Dermatology team for donating their time, energy, and teamwork. Support from community partners like this truly makes a difference.

We’re proud to announce a major milestone for Veterans on the Rise.

We’ve officially acquired a new campus in Prince George’s County, an important step forward in expanding services and creating a centralized hub for veterans and their families across the DMV.

This acquisition strengthens our long term impact and deepens our commitment to serving with dignity, accessibility, and purpose. We’re grateful to the partners who helped make this possible and look forward to what’s ahead.

Through programs like Cheryl’s Kloset, we provide essential clothing and seasonal items to families in need across the Washington, D.C. area. We also support veterans and underserved communities through community outreach, youth and family support initiatives, life skills programming, and partnerships designed to create stability and opportunity.

Board Chair Tamara Alston and Executive Director David Kurtz attended a reception at the Capital One Center in McLean for finalists in the Moxie Award competition. VOTR is honored by the recognition and looks forward to the awards ceremony on October 30th and the announcement of recipients.
