🇺🇸 WHY HILL DAY? Because behind every policy conversation is a family.

Micah Sawyer was just 22 years old when his life was taken by fentanyl.

His father turned that unimaginable loss into action.

Today, Micah’s dad is an advocate, co-founder of Micah's Hugs, a Walk for Lives organizer, UAF State Captain in Northern California, and part of a growing movement of families who refuse to allow the people they love to become just another statistic.

This September, families like Micah’s are taking that advocacy all the way to Capitol Hill.

On September 25, United Against Fentanyl families, State Captains, State Representatives and advocates from across the country will come together in Washington, D.C. for Hill Day 2026.

We aren’t going to Washington simply to be seen.

We’re going to make sure families are heard.

Every person walking those halls carries a story.

A son.
A daughter.
A sibling.
A parent.
A friend.

And every story represents another reason our country must continue moving from awareness → to action.

NALOXONE ISN’T ONLY FOR SOMEONE YOU THINK USES DRUGS.

It’s for a child who accidentally finds a pill.

It’s for a teenager who takes something they believe is legitimate.

It’s for a friend whose substance was unknowingly contaminated.

It’s for a loved one taking opioids who accidentally takes too much.

It’s for the stranger beside you when something goes wrong.

During Overdose Awareness Week, we want families and communities to understand something important:

Naloxone is an emergency medication that can temporarily reverse an opioid overdose—and knowing how to use it can save a life.

You don’t have to know why someone is unresponsive before helping.

If you suspect an opioid overdose:

CALL. GIVE NALOXONE. STAY.

📞 Call 911.
💜 Administer naloxone if available.
🫁 Support breathing/CPR as appropriate.
⏱️ If there is no response after 2–3 minutes, give another dose if available.
🤝 Stay with the person until emergency help arrives.

And remember: naloxone will not harm someone if opioids aren’t the cause of their emergency.

Carrying naloxone isn’t about making assumptions about who may need it.

It’s about being prepared to save a life.

Because an emergency can happen in any family, any school, any workplace and any community.

Where do fatal overdoses happen most often? Homes and apartments rank first. Hotels and motels come next, accounting for at least 2,327 overdose deaths in 2024 alone (CDC).

Most properties are equipped to respond to fires and cardiac emergencies. Naloxone should be just as accessible. A wall-mounted naloxone station placed alongside a fire extinguisher and an AED can help save lives when every second counts.

HELP MAKE HISTORY

Do you want leaders to hear your voice?

On Friday, September 25, bereaved families from dozens of states will arrive in Washington, D.C. They will come with photographs. They will come with names. Mothers from Ohio. Fathers from Texas. Grandparents, sisters, brothers. A million American families know this loss — and for one weekend, hundreds of them will be in the same city at the same time.

Saturday morning, September 26, we walk the National Mall together. Not as strangers. As people who understand each other without a single word of explanation.

If you have lost someone you love to fentanyl poisoning and overdose, this gathering is for you. Bring their photograph. Say their name out loud, in the company of people who will never ask you to explain. You will not spend one hour of this weekend alone.
