The Canady Foundation for the Arts (CFA) is a Washington, DC cultural arts 501(c) 3 non-profit organization that uses the power of story to connect professional artists to youth of color through arts education, community, live theater, and professional development. By intersecting theatre, media, cultural activism, mentorship and entrepreneurship, CFA uses storytelling to positively impact youth

as they develop into adulthood. Mission: CFA empowers youth of color through cultural arts programming and training, giving agency for youth to tell their authentic stories. Vision: CFA's vision is to ensure youth of color develop confidently into adulthood while positively impacting their communities.

Nessa Amherst's very first play, Define “Black,” is making its world premiere at District Fringe this July during Spark: New Play Readings!

Define “Black is 'an exploration of what blackness looks like through conversations of music, films, s*x and the challenges of being a performer in an industry that seems to struggle with change and what it truly means to be 'Black.'"

Jeremy is an award-winning theatre-maker and multidisciplinary artist who has worked with an amazing array of theatre companies like Spooky Action Theater, Signature Theatre, 1st Stage, Everyman Theatre, Mosaic Theatre Company and Young Playwrights Theatre as well as performed with several academic institutions in the DMV!
