Since 2004, DC Stop Modern Slavery (DC SMS) has been a leader in DC community efforts to address human trafficking. We have grown from a small group of concerned citizens to a body of more than 1,000 with substantial impact. Over time, we have developed an action-oriented approach that leverages the abilities and interests of our diverse membership. Significant achievements: raising more than $100
,000 and recruiting more than 2,000 participants for the largest ever anti-human trafficking event in the District’s history, helping to pass legislation addressing trafficking in the DC area, and training hundreds of area residents to recognize and take steps to end slavery. We have been honored by Courtney’s House for Effective Use of Grassroots Tactics and have served as a model for community organizing around human trafficking for Stop Modern Slavery (SMS) chapters across the United States. Uniquely positioned as a DC-based community group, we continue to grow and seek new ways to contribute to a slavery-free future.
