Whether you’re a mom, a grandma, or someone who’s stepped up as a mother figure, we’re celebrating you today. Happy Mother’s Day! 💐🩷

We’re inspired by all of the moms and grandmothers 50 and older who give back to their communities every day. Here are a few of our favorite stories:

"Rising costs are on my mind, and they're just going to go higher. You have to eat. You have to have health care," says Myndie Friedman, 69.

Nearly 20% of Americans of retirement age are employed or seeking employment. "You have to eat," said one 69-year-old of her reasons for continuing to work.

Last night, we were proud to partner with the Washington Nationals for a special "Strike Out Senior Poverty" night at Nationals Park! ⚾

Before the first pitch, we recognized dedicated donors and AARP Foundation Tax‑Aide volunteer leaders who are committed to helping older adults thrive. Fans also cheered as AARP Foundation President Claire Casey threw out the ceremonial first pitch and Senior Vice President of Litigation William Alvarado Rivera officially kicked off the game with “Play ball!”

With hundreds of AARP and AARP Foundation staff and guests filling the stands, the message was clear: We're all stepping up to the plate to end senior poverty.

Older adults deserve to age comfortably at home, not be forced into nursing facilities. But broken systems can easily take away that choice.

Not on our watch.

➡️ A federal judge allowed a class action lawsuit to move forward after finding evidence that some older adults and people with disabilities in New Hampshire aren't getting the Medicaid‑approved help they need at home, like assistance with bathing, cooking, or getting around safely. When that help doesn’t show up, people can be pushed into nursing facilities — even when the law says they should be able to stay at home.

As Miss America 2000 and the daughter of a Vietnam War veteran, Heather French Henry advocated for an end to homelessness among veterans. She has also served as the commissioner of the Kentucky Department of Veterans Affairs.

As she says, no one gets through life alone — and volunteers prove that every day. 💛
