From Living Classrooms of the National Capital Region on the storm clean-up:

We are excited to announce that Kingman and Heritage Islands are reopened to the public, with trail restrictions.
We’ve been working hard to clear trails, but there’s still work to do. As you are navigating through the Islands, please be mindful of the trail closure signs and do not cross. Thanks for your continued patience as we work to restore access across the Islands.

Please read below, review the map, and follow all signage indicating trail closures.

Pathway connecting RFK Lot 6 Island Entrance, bridge to Heritage Island, entrance to Fishing Platform, and bridge to Kingman Island
Kingman Island Main Meadow
Kingman Island Vernal Pool Trail
Portion of Kingman Island Trail (North of Lower Meadow Loop)

As a reminder, the Islands are only open to the public from dawn to dusk.

In collaboration with Mary Desha Chapter, NSDAR , we are excited to announce our poster contest! ⭐️⭐️⭐️

To help local students learn more about the intriguing and unique species, we are hosting a Meet the Species poster contest! 🐿️🌲

🎨We call on our creative DC students in grades 3-5 to craft a poster introducing the public to our local endangered and threatened species. The deadline to submit is October 16th.

Unsafe Conditions
Due to Thursday evenings storms, many trees are down on Kingman and Heritage Islands. Both gates are locked and the Islands will be closed until more debris is cleared.

The 10th Anacostia River Bioblitz is now only 1 month away! We're so excited to engage friends from around the watershed in community science to document as many wonderful species of the watershed as possible!
