Attention DC and Maryland residents: make sure early voting is on your weekend to-do list. ✅

The sun is shining, polling locations are open, and your vote matters.

For DC voters, this goes beyond the mayor’s race. Voters are also deciding races for Attorney General, Delegate to Congress, Council Chair, At-Large Council, and several Ward Council seats. 👉🏾 This is also DC’s first election using ranked choice voting, making voter education and participation more important than ever.

For Maryland voters, your ballot includes statewide races such as Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General, Comptroller, State Senate, and House of Delegates. There are also important local races that will help shape your community, including Board of Education seats in Montgomery County and offices such as County Executive, Sheriff, Clerk of the Court, and more in Prince George’s County.

These elections help determine the direction of not only our states, but our counties, neighborhoods, schools, and local services as well.

A reminder that TODAY, June 14, is the final day of early voting in DC. Maryland early voting continues through June 18. As long as you are in line by 8 p.m., stay in line and make your voice heard.

Make a plan. Bring a friend. Cast your ballot.

DC is entering the final weekend of early voting ahead of the June 16 election, and every vote matters! 🚨

The Greater Washington Urban League was proud to partner with FairVote to discuss the importance of this election and help residents understand ranked choice voting. As this is the first time ranked choice voting is being used in Washington, DC, we know many voters may still have questions, and that’s okay. We encourage you to ask questions, learn the process, and head to the polls with confidence.

In this video, hear remarks from Kendra Oates, Director of the Center for Financial Inclusion at the Greater Washington Urban League, as she shares why civic participation matters and what voters should know before casting their ballot.

If you’re still looking for guidance on how to participate in ranked choice voting, don’t let pride get in the way of asking questions.‼️

This is the first time Washington, DC, is utilizing ranked choice voting, and it’s completely understandable if you’re still unsure about how the process works. That’s why we encourage residents to attend tonight’s Primary Power: Know Your Vote information session at Florida Avenue Grill.

BREAKING NEWS!

We're proud to share that our inaugural Birthing Black: Fatherhood Liberated: Healing the Mind. Reclaiming the Legacy training program has been featured nationally as we prepare to launch this groundbreaking initiative on June 17-18.

For far too long, conversations around perinatal mental health have centered almost exclusively on mothers, leaving fathers out of the narrative. This first-of-its-kind training is designed to help change that by equipping healthcare professionals, clinicians, birth workers, and wellness providers with the tools to better support Black fathers during one of the most transformative periods of their lives.

We know that when fathers are supported, families are stronger. When families are stronger, communities thrive. 💙

As we count down to launch, we're excited to help advance a new standard of care that recognizes Black fathers as essential to family wellness, maternal health, and generational healing.

Thank you to our partners, supporters, and everyone helping us bring this vision to life. We cannot wait to welcome our first cohort and begin this important work.

June is a time to celebrate Black fathers, but our commitment to Black fatherhood extends far beyond Father’s Day.

This month, the Greater Washington Urban League is highlighting two opportunities that are helping strengthen fathers, families, and communities across the District. Before the weekend arrives, we want to make sure you, or someone you know, has the opportunity to get involved. 👇🏿👇🏿

The Black Fatherhood Blueprint Program is preparing to launch Cohort III next week, and interviews close June 8. This program supports Black fathers through resources, community, financial empowerment, personal growth, and relationship-building. If you know a father who could benefit, now is the time to encourage him to apply.

We are also excited to host our inaugural Birthing Black: Fatherhood Liberated training on June 17-18. Building on the success of our perinatal mental health work, this training focuses on paternal mental health and the critical role fathers play in supporting healthy families. Designed for clinicians and birth professionals, participants will gain practical tools and deeper insight into fathers’ experiences during the perinatal period.

Strong fathers help build strong families. Strong families help build strong communities. ✊🏿

These programs are part of innovative work happening right here in Greater Washington and contribute to a growing national conversation around fatherhood, wellness, and family support. Help us spread the word, fill the room, and connect these opportunities with the people who need them most. 🚨

🗓️ Black Fatherhood Blueprint interviews close June 8
🗓️ Birthing Black: Fatherhood Liberated takes place June 17-18, application window closing shortly!

For too long, conversations about Black fatherhood have been shaped by stereotypes instead of stories. The reality is that Black fathers across Washington, D.C., work every day to support their children, strengthen family relationships, and build brighter futures despite the challenges they face.

The Black Fatherhood Blueprint Program was designed in partnership by the Greater Washington Urban League and the United Way of the National Capital Area to support that journey.

Through a 15-week experience, participants gain tools to strengthen relationships with their children, improve financial stability, focus on personal growth, support their mental wellness, and connect with a brotherhood of fathers who are committed to showing up for themselves and their families.

If you’re a Black father in Washington, D.C., and financial challenges have impacted visitation with your child, this opportunity was built with you in mind.

Interviews close June 8. Cohort III begins June 10. 🚨

Join us in elevating Black fatherhood by applying today or sharing this opportunity with a father in your network.
