A Halloween Party with a Purpose!
Join District Bridges for a Halloween fundraiser at Wonderland Ballroom as we celebrate the community that makes our work possible, connect with our friends and partners, and give a heartfelt send-off to our founder and Executive Director, Brianne Dornbush.

From Art All Night to the Protect the Bridge Campaign, District Bridges has always been strengthened by the people who show up, pitch in, and believe in our work. We want to meet and mingle with you as we look to the future of the organization. From Ribbon Cuttings to Community Clean Ups- District Bridges’ team had a busy Tuesday Morning!
👉 Our Main Street team was welcoming Lafayette Federal Credit Union to their new 14th Street location

THE EMERGENCY LEGISLATION PASSED! This ensures we have the ability to carry out the third and final year of this program pilot and don’t have to cease operations and services with merely a few weeks notice 😭👏 this does not mean that we are out of the woods from a funding perspective, as there will likely be delays in disbursing the grant funding and we will still need to be able to fill that gap through individual giving or other non restricted funds. THANK YOU to everyone who wrote letters of support and donated to our Protect The Bridge Campaign- the outpouring of support over the last seven days has been truly heartwarming.
After listening to the discussion in the meeting yesterday, it’s clear there is a gap in understand how difficult these connective services programs are to implement and sustain. Simply having funds to invest does not help solve the opioid overdose crisis or actually get someone into housing.
While periodically recomputing grants ensures bad actors don’t get tax payer dollars in perpetuity, withdrawing funds from a program that has proven results with no warning or plan of how to support the existing crisis in the community completely erases the network of trust, expertise, and community we’ve spent 5 years trying to build. We are beyond thankful that this legislation stops that from happening. The entire point of this pilot was to prove it works and then expand it to other neighborhoods and I hope we get a chance to spend the next year helping other organizations implement similar programs in new hot spots in our city.
Thank you thank you thank you to our partners and residents in our community who have seen first hand our impact on our neighborhood and believe in our work. Thanks to YOU we get another year.

🚨 Our staff is down at the Wilson Building advocating for the emergency legislation to continue our Community Navigation program. If folks want to call or email Councilmembers and voice their support, this is our last chance!

Sample script: "I am writing/calling as a member of the community to urge the Department of Behavioral Health to continue funding District Bridges’ Community Navigation program through Option Year 3.
District Bridges’ Community Navigators provide an important connection for people in our community who may otherwise struggle to access behavioral health care, housing, outreach, and other essential services.
I am concerned that if District Bridges’ Community Navigation program ends on September 30, people who rely on these relationships and services could lose an important source of support and connection.
Ward 1 would also lose its dedicated mobile outreach capacity, potentially increasing pressure on EMS and MPD as proactive, nonviolent behavioral health support becomes less available.
I respectfully ask DBH to continue funding District Bridges’ Community Navigation program through Option Year 3 and provide sufficient time to determine a responsible long-term plan for these services.
The people relying on these services cannot afford a gap in support."

We’re excited to be part of the second annual DC Community Organizing Festival on September 26!
For one afternoon, is bringing together DC’s grassroots ecosystem for a day of community, organizing, and collective action.
Come find our table, meet other organizations doing work you care about, and get connected to the people building power across the District. There will be practical organizing workshops led by experienced organizers, free delicious food, and plenty of festive activities to spend the day in community.

Community Navigation doesn't work alone. That's the point.

Our Navigators are the bridge between people on the street and DC's housing, healthcare, behavioral health and social-service systems. Today, we're asking our partners to tell you what happens to their work when that bridge disappears.

"There are few aspects to homeless street outreach in Columbia Heights where they have not played an integral role."

33 overdose reversals. One month.

During July's severe overdose spike, our Community Navigators performed 33 lifesaving Naloxone reversals in Columbia Heights Civic Plaza. Normally, we average 2 to 4 per month. Behind every number is a person. How can you help us continue our work?
Ask DBH to continue Community Navigation funding. Here's how:
1. Contact DC Councilmembers and urge them to vote to approve the emergency legislation that Councilmember Nadeau will present next Tuesday that will ensure DBH proceeds with our Option Year Three (see Councilmember contacts below)
2. Like, Share, and Repost our social media posts to amplify the message
3. Write a letter of support ​and send it to us so we can share it with DC Council. Send your letter to [email protected].

Community Navigation isn't simply outreach. Our team walks alongside people like Marisol through housing paperwork, medical appointments, behavioral health services and the complicated systems separating someone from stability.

Our Community Navigation team is spending the week at the Conference, connecting with practitioners, advocates, and organizations from across the country who are working to improve health outcomes and expand support for our most vulnerable neighbors. We’re excited to learn, share, and bring back new ideas that strengthen our work here in DC.

District Bridges + = the perfect match. District Bridges is uniquely positioned to both distribute Breadcoin to neighbors in need AND sign up new businesses to accept the token as payment! While so much work in DC happens in silos, we are always looking for ways to help the ecosystem function more effectively together- and Breadcoin is a perfect example of how our Community Navigation Team and Main Streets team can effectively work together on such an important issue in our community like food insecurity.
