Neil Mehta from Brown University and coauthors examine the impact of Rhode Island's adoption of affordability standards in 2010 on hospital staffing and wages. They find that hospital revenue reductions after price growth caps were implemented in the state resulted in a substantial and persistent reduction in hospital labor costs and staffing relative to other hospitals in other states.
