Opening this week: A General's Prayer

Set against the stark beauty of the winter encampment at Valley Forge during the American Revolution, A General’s Prayer invites us into one of George Washington’s darkest moments, where faith — and the fate of a nation — hang in the balance.

Inspired by Arnold Friberg’s iconic masterpiece, The Prayer at Valley Forge, this intimate production brings America’s first president vividly to life, exploring his doubts, his resolve, and his quiet dependence on God.

This is a show for anyone who has ever wrestled with doubt, leaned on God in dark seasons, or wondered whether courage can be rooted in something deeper than strength.

In the bitter winter of 1777, George Washington stood at the edge of collapse — his army starving, his cause uncertain, his nation not yet born. What held him together?

A General's Prayer is a stirring, 70-minute one-man theatrical experience written by Dean Batali and performed by James Denton (Desperate Housewives, Good Witch). It takes you inside Valley Forge to witness Washington at his most vulnerable: a real man, carrying an impossible burden, calling out to God for help.

Here you'll discover the source of the courage that carried him through — and face a question that is just as urgent today: Where do you turn when the pressure mounts?

A powerful way to mark America's 250th anniversary, this is a portrait of strength you won't forget.

A General's Prayer opens June 12 at the World Stage Theater. Get tickets now at the link in our bio.
