The Hill publishes J.H. Snider's op-ed critiquing the way the President and Congress have been allocating inaugural tickets to their supporters at public expense. http://thehill.com/blogs/congress-blog/the-administration/277217-presidential-inaugural-pork

In recent years, Congress has greatly curbed monetary pork, notably earmarks. For example, after reforms were instituted to make earmarks more transparent, their number in legislation decreased from 13,997 (worth $27 billion) in 2005 to 2,658 (worth $13 billion) in 2007.

NPR's All Things Considered interviews J.H. Snider about the strengths and weaknesses of the White House's We The People petition website. http://www.npr.org/2013/01/03/168564135/white-houses-we-the-people-petitions-find-mixed-success

The retro way to get the attention of the White House was to write an op-ed in a high profile newspaper, lobby Congress, or maybe even stage a march on Washington. On December 8, 2011, the Center for Technology Innovation at the Brookings Institution published J.H. Snider’s paper on why the politics of using unique identifiers to track powerful political players across government databases may be less dismal than widely believed.

In a representative democracy, average citizens should be able to easily monitor the public actions of their representatives and the politically powerful who seek to influence those representatives, writes Jim Snider. Snider recommends asking the president of the United States to allow Americans to...

On November 14, the Washington Post published this op-ed by iSolon.org's President J.H. Snider. The op-ed discusses the results of the November 2, 2010 ballot referendum in Maryland to convene a state constitutional convention.

In an Oct. 21 gubernatorial debate with Republican challenger Robert Ehrlich, Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley was asked if he supported convening a constitutional convention - a "con-con" - in Maryland. He replied: "If that's what people want to do, then that's what we should do." O'Malley undoubte...

Today's Washington Post has a front page story on Maryland's November 2, 2010 ballot item to convene a constitutional convention. The story features the work of iSolon.org President J.H. Snider. During Fall 2010, iSolon.org will continue to serve as a resource for those interested in understanding the role that state constitutional conventions have and could play in democratic reform both in Maryland and elsewhere.

With July Fourth complete, it's time to face a real test of independence: If you have the right to tear up and rewrite your constitution, should you?
