Our team have been having some excellent conversations at the Global Religious Freedom Gathering in at Dallas Baptist University in Texas, with a particular highlight being our Sudan Specialist Mohaned Elnour delivering a briefing that culminated in a powerful moment of prayer for the country.

In the fight for freedom of religion or belief ‘wins’ are rare, so it was also encouraging to meet with Pastor Ezra Jin, the founder and pastor of Zion Church after his release from prison.

Every win spurs us on and encourages us on to keep campaigning and advocating for justice and freedom for all who suffer injustice because of their religion or belief.

Please join us in praying for Nepal and Tibet.
Across the border region on the Bhotekoshi River, communities are searching for missing relatives in the aftermath of flash floods caused by a glacier collapse.
The floods hit on 26 August and have claimed over 1,000 lives. Hundreds are still missing.

Please pray:
➡️ For the continued rescue efforts and coordinated response from the Nepalese and Chinese governments at every level, especially in the hardest to reach areas.
➡️ That humanitarian aid will reach those in need and that vital information will be made freely available and uncensored by China so that lives can be saved and families reunited.
➡️ Ask God to console those who lost loved ones and homes in these floods and to give them hope for recovery.

From speaking up for prisoners of conscience to refusing to let global crises be ignored, this is what sustained pressure really looks like.

Sometimes, raising your voice means choosing to keep going regardless of the immediate response.

What if every word you spoke, even in private, felt like it might be monitored?

In Venezuela, many religious leaders are navigating a reality shaped by surveillance, pressure, and fear of saying the “wrong” thing.

Pastor Ezra is free – but eight others from Zion Church are still in detention. Their trial starts today.

Six pastors, one elder, and a pastor’s wife face charges of fraud and illegal business operations. But in reality, they were targeted for engaging in everyday church activities, such as receiving offerings or selling Bible study courses.

Please join us in prayer for a just outcome in this trial, for the acquittal and freedom of the eight detainees, and that the young families without a mother or father at this time would find comfort and hope.

We pray in hope — remembering that Pastor Ezra Jin and some previously detained church members have already been released in July.

He shared his hopes for freedom for Christians in China:

“Such a future might seem impossibly remote, but so did my release … I couldn’t be more thankful and pray that others still imprisoned will experience this same freedom soon. Mine is a God of miracles, and he constantly surprises me."

The trial will conclude on Tuesday 18 August.

Please join us in praying for Colombia

The country experienced the strongest earthquake in a decade on Monday, 10 August. Many of those with whom we work and family members of CSW live in the affected regions but communication has been difficult.

Please pray for a well coordinated and effective response from the government at every level, especially in the hardest to reach areas.

Ask God to console those who have been affected and to give them hope.

A court ruling. A signed agreement. A long-awaited reunion.
And still, they are left waiting.

This update on the Du Merci case reveals how justice can be delayed — and denied — even when the outcome seems clear.

In Colombia, the violence of ideologically driven guerilla groups, as well as the countless armed criminal gangs, is reaching levels not seen for two decades.

Religious leaders in Colombia are being targeted simply for speaking out and serving their communities.

When previous President Gustavo Francisco Petro Urrego came to power in August 2022, he promised Paz Total (Total Peace), a safer future for communities across Colombia - but just one year later, religious leaders were stripped of state protections that left them more exposed

We've been asking: what does “total peace” really mean if the most vulnerable are left exposed?
