MCID Washington

MCID Washington MCID is a National Program Agency based in DC administering the IVLP, which brings nearly 5,000 visitors to the U.S. annually for professional exchange.

Since 1998, the Mississippi Consortium of International Development’s (MCID’s) Washington, DC office has partnered with the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) to design and implement the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP). MCID is one of several nonprofit, National Program Agencies (NPAs) based in Washington, DC that administers the IVLP. The p

rogram, designed to enhance mutual understanding through professional and cultural exchange, brings approximately 5,000 current and emerging leaders in government, politics, civil society, business, media, education, the arts, and other fields to the U.S. each year. More than 200 current and former heads of state, 1,500 cabinet-level ministers, and many other distinguished leaders in the public and private sectors have participated in the IVLP since its inception. MCID works closely with member nonprofit organizations of the Global Ties network to capture the essence of communities across the United States through professional programming, tours that highlight regional history and geography, and hospitality hosted by local families. IVLP is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State with funding provided by the U.S. Government and administered by MCID Washington.

MCID Washington would like to wish everyone a Happy Indigenous People’s Day! Today we recognize the rich culture and history of Indigenous Peoples in America. Pictured is an IVLP group from Nepal working on Amplifying Indigenous Voices in Climate and Conservation Policy. This past weekend, MCID said goodbye to our visitors from Ukraine who came to the U.S. for an project titled “Cultural Management and Arts Entrepreneurship.” While in the U.S., these cultural heritage professionals traveled across the country to meet with federal and local officials, as well as nonprofits and community arts organizations, to discuss best practices in protecting, preserving, and promoting the arts. Specifically, the Ukrainian visitors met with arts and heritage professionals in DC, New York City, Boulder, Orlando, and Detroit during their program. MCID would like to thank the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) and our CBM partners Boulder Council for International Visitors, WorldOrlando, and Global Ties Detroit for their collaboration in putting together a successful project.

In late spring of this year, MCID hosted seven international visitors from across Africa for an project titled “Combatting Illegal Fishing off the Coasts and in Lakes of Africa.” For this program, these military and civil society experts traveled to DC, New Hampshire, Ohio, and Oregon to learn about best practices in countering illegal fishing and facilitate connections between law enforcement and fisheries management organizations. From visiting fish hatcheries and Coast Guard stations to meeting with local officials safeguarding marine resources, the visitors got to see multiple federal and local efforts that protect marine wildlife from illegal fishing. MCID would like to thank our CBM partners World Affairs Council of NH, World Affairs Council - Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky, and WorldOregon for making this such a memorable program!
