Today I had the privilege of attending the National Council for Mental Wellbeing conference and listening to Patrick J. Kennedy deliver a powerful keynote. His passion for mental health advocacy, lived experience, and commitment to breaking stigma remind us why this work matters so deeply.

Hearing his insights on access, policy, and the future of behavioral health was both inspiring and grounding. It’s a reminder that mental wellbeing isn’t just a talking point, it’s a movement, and every one of us has a role to play.

As we celebrate National Recovery Month, I want to thank all our amazing WestCare staff who make Uplifting the Human Spirit possible. The work we do is not easy: seeing families broken apart due to addiction, seeing individuals relapse, seeing those we serve be judged and criticized.

While the work is hard, the payoff is priceless. If we can save one life or bring together one family previously estranged, then it's one change we have created for our community. A future where everyone served is uplifted requires a community, and I'm proud and honored to be part of WestCare, which is that community to so many.

I can hardly believe it’s been over three decades.

I was first hired as a Weekend Staff On Duty at The Third Floor in 1990, which eventually became WestCare California Inc. Never could I have imagined being where I am today.

In my experience, I have yet to meet anyone, myself included, who hasn’t needed help at some point in life. We’ve witnessed countless examples of how recovery is possible and how life after recovery can be both uplifting and fulfilling.

Thank you to my family and to my WestCare friends and family, who have been — and continue to be — such an important part of my journey.

Exciting times in Washington, DC! Our Trade Association, Treatment Communities of America (TCA), had an incredible Hill Day filled with impactful visits advocating for essential treatment initiatives.

A special highlight was the reception at Rayburn House, where we celebrated the outstanding contributions of New Hampshire Rep. Annie Kuster, who was honored with the prestigious Charlie Devin Award for Excellence!
