May 31 is World Parrot Day, a time to celebrate birds whose color, intelligence, and wild music brighten our world.
But for too many parrots, survival is not guaranteed.
In Puerto Rico, the Puerto Rican parrot shows what is possible when strong conservation laws and dedicated recovery efforts work together. And in the Southwest, the endangered thick-billed parrot reminds us what can be lost when protections come too late.
Their stories point to the same truth: wildlife needs strong laws, science-based decisions, and protected habitat to survive.
That is why attacks on the Endangered Species Act are so dangerous. The ESA is America’s strongest and most effective law for preventing extinction, and it has helped save 99% of listed species from disappearing forever. Weakening it would put parrots and countless other imperiled species at greater risk.
This World Parrot Day, let’s honor these remarkable birds with action.
