Greater Washington has built one of the strongest transportation networks in the country, and the region has a major opportunity to make that system work even better for people, businesses, and communities.

In a recent Board of Trade discussion, regional business leaders shared how the DMV can maximize its existing mobility assets, strengthen connections across D.C., Maryland, and Virginia, and support a more accessible, competitive, and connected regional economy.

From commuter rail to airports, buses, bridges, and emerging mobility technology, Greater Washington has the foundation to keep moving forward together.

Washington, D.C. is at a defining moment.

Federal job reductions, commercial real estate uncertainty, and a rapidly shifting innovation economy are reshaping the District’s fiscal and competitive future.

In a new Washington Business Journal Viewpoint, our President & CEO, Jack McDougle, outlines why D.C. must take a stronger long-term approach to business formation, job creation, housing supply, and economic growth.

The message is clear: sustained opportunity depends on a growing economy, fiscal discipline, and policies that encourage investment, reduce barriers, and strengthen the fundamentals that support communities across the city.

Economic uncertainty is not felt the same way in every region, industry, or organization.

The Greater Washington Board of Trade recently convened an Executive Leadership Roundtable with Tom Barkin, President & CEO of the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond, for a candid conversation on the national economy and the forces shaping Greater Washington’s competitiveness.

The discussion explored federal workforce shifts, housing affordability, artificial intelligence, data centers, energy demand, defense, health care, and global trade.

Thank you to Tom Barkin, Tony Pierce, Akin, the Federal Reserve of Richmond, and our members for contributing to this timely conversation.
