At a defining moment for philanthropy and the communities we work in and with, sector leadership matters.

โœ… How we move beyond traditional silos
โœ… How we sustain long-term impact for communities

This is where strategy meets purpose and where philanthropy charts its path forward.

Last week, United Philanthropy Forum released a statement standing with communities in Minnesota and with the nonprofits and foundations responding on the ground.

As the devastating impact of violence and fear continues to take its toll on communities in Minnesota, our message remains consistent: philanthropyโ€™s role in moments like this is to show up with trust, flexibility, and partnership alongside those closest to the work.

We are also sharing a resource page with concrete ways to support Minnesotaโ€™s communities and the nonprofits and foundations serving them. This is both a tool and a call to action for our members, foundations, and the broader sector to mobilize now.

The Congressional Philanthropy Caucus is back on Capitol Hill, and its return comes at a pivotal moment for our sector.

Yesterday on Giving Tuesday, the Caucus relaunched with bipartisan leadership from Ways and Means Committee members Rep. Blake Moore (R-UT) and Rep. Danny K. Davis (D-IL). The Caucus restores a crucial channel for philanthropy to engage directly with lawmakers on charitable giving, community investment, and the future of our field.

United Philanthropy Forum has worked for months alongside Hill champions and our sector partners to help make this relaunch possible as part of our long-term strategy to build a sustainable advocacy infrastructure for philanthropy and the communities we serve.

arrives at a pivotal moment for philanthropy. After a year of rapid policy shifts and a wave of unprecedented threats against the sector and the communities we serve, our ability to act with clarity, coordination, and shared purpose has never mattered more.

๐ŸŒŸ Blog Spotlight: Final Emerging Leader Blog Post Now Live ๐ŸŒŸ

In the blog titled "Connection & Curiosity," Kara Komprathoum from Grantmakers for Education, a 2025 Emerging Leader Scholarship recipient, shares powerful reflections on her first experience and why peer connection matters so much in the world of philanthropy-infrastructure organizations.

From the workshop led by Emerging Practitioners in Philanthropy (EPIP) that helped her identify core values to an unexpected icebreaker question that sparked deep conversation about purpose, her insights remind us that philanthropy is as much about people as it is about systems.

"It was deeply affirming to be in a room with peers who had similar experiences and were eager to learn and grow together...Reading through these reflections made me feel less alone."

This is exactly why we invest in emerging leaders - and why learning creates lasting impact beyond any single event.

๐ŸŽ‰ Congratulations to Deborah Aubert Thomas on completing her first year as President & CEO of United Philanthropy Forum!

To mark this milestone, sheโ€™s shared a deeply personal and powerful reflection that connects her grandmotherโ€™s memories of community resilience during the Jim Crow era to the urgent work our sector must do today.

Her grandmotherโ€™s stories werenโ€™t about the systems that oppressed them, but about how their community looked out for each other โ€“ making sure everyone had food, caring for those less fortunate.

That spirit of collective care is what Deborah says our sector needs now: โ€œFund the democracy builders, fund the grassroots organizers, fund movements, fund the resistance.โ€

๐ŸŒณ Using the beautiful metaphor of forest trees connected by underground root systems, she reminds us that our strength comes from our connections to one another โ€“ and that isolated organizations cannot withstand the storms ahead.

โ€œThe winds are fierce, and this moment calls for all in our sector to stand together for any organization targeted lest we all be uprooted.โ€

This is leadership we need right now.
