Happy Pride Month! ๐ŸŒˆ Pride is a reminder of the activists, organizers, and community members who fought for visibility, dignity, and liberation, AND of the work that continues today.

This month, we honor the resilience, joy, and brilliance of LGBTQ+ communities in all of our diversity. We celebrate our history, uplift our voices, and recommit ourselves to building a future where every LGBTQ+ person can live openly, safely and authentically. Pride began as a movement, and that spirit continues through community care and collective action.

At the National LGBTQ Task Force, we remain committed to creating a world where justice and freedom are not aspirations, but realities for all.

Happy Pride โ€” weโ€™re proud to be in this movement with you. โค๏ธ๐Ÿงก๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’œ

๐ŸŸ  Today, we recognize Barbara Gittings ๐Ÿ…

Barbara Gittings was a pioneering activist whose advocacy helped transform LGBTQ+ history and expand visibility for generations to come. During the 1970s, Gittings played an instrumental role in the movement that pushed the American Psychiatric Association to remove homosexuality as a mental illness from the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) โ€” a monumental step toward dismantling harmful stigma and changing public understanding of LGBTQ+ people.

Barbaraโ€™s legacy is also deeply rooted in our own history. As a foremother of the National LGBTQ Task Force, she served on the organizationโ€™s first Board of Directors in 1973, helping lay the foundation for advocacy and liberation work that continues today.

is proud to be a Community Sponsor of Florida BlaQ Out Pride Weekend, taking place June 4โ€“7, 2026! ๐ŸŒˆโœจ

More than a festival, Florida BlaQ Out Pride Weekend is a multi-day celebration rooted in Black LGBTQ+ liberation, joy, culture, wellness, and community. Bringing together more than 3,000 attendees, this powerful gathering serves as a homecoming, cultural summit, creative playground, and space for meaningful conversations about the future of our movement.

Weโ€™re also excited to share that National LGBTQ Task Force Vice President, Alicia Boykins-Whitaker, will be featured as a panelist in a critical discussion exploring the national landscape impacting Black LGBTQ+ communities โ€” from civil rights and health equity to the coordinated efforts shaping our communities and the movement work pushing back against them.

We know the challenges facing Florida are not isolated โ€” and neither is our response. Through community, organizing, and collective action, we continue building pathways toward justice and liberation.

โ€œI am humbled to be part of this daring inaugural class of honorees. The National LGBTQ Task Force continues to ensure the innovation, strategy, and leadership in the LGBTQ+ movement is leveraged to support all people struggling just to live, love and make ends meet. Freedom and fairness are possible, but to attain it, courage is required. We are grateful to the Stonewall Museum for seeing this in our work and its reverberations through our communities.โ€ โ€“ Kierra Johnson said.
