At our 2026 Annual Gala in New York City, IABA was proud to honor Rep. Yassamin Ansari with our Distinguished Elected Official Award.

Congresswoman Ansari has been a strong advocate for the Iranian American community, working to protect the rights of Iranian immigrants and expand access to opportunity. IABA has valued working with her office on legal issues affecting our community, including efforts to address LSAC’s restrictions affecting Iranian law school applicants. We are grateful for her team’s responsiveness and shared commitment to advancing the rights of Iranian Americans.

At our 2026 Annual Gala in New York City, IABA was proud to present Justice Susan Blanco of the Colorado Supreme Court with our Trailblazer Award.

As the first Iranian American appointed to a state supreme court in the United States, Justice Blanco’s historic achievement marks a powerful milestone for our community. Her leadership, dedication to public service, and commitment to expanding access to justice exemplify the values this award celebrates.

At the 2026 IABA Annual Gala, we were honored to present our Lifetime Achievement Award to Cyrus Amir-Mokri, General Counsel of the Commercial and Investment Bank at JPMorganChase.

Cyrus has built an extraordinary career spanning public service and the private sector. As a former Assistant Secretary for Financial Institutions at the U.S. Department of the Treasury and a leader at some of the world’s premier financial and legal institutions, he exemplifies the excellence, leadership, and commitment to service that this award recognizes.

His achievements are a source of pride for the Iranian American legal community and an inspiration to lawyers building their own paths in the profession. It was a privilege to celebrate his distinguished career at this year’s Gala.

At IABA’s Annual Conference in New York City, our panel “AI and the Law: Innovation and Responsibility” explored AI’s growing role in legal practice, the opportunities it creates, and the questions it raises about accountability, cybersecurity, and professional responsibility.

Recent Supreme Court decisions have reshaped the legal landscape for voting rights, fair representation, and redistricting across the country. Our 2026 IABA Annual Conference panel, Protecting the Vote: Redistricting and Representation, explored what these developments mean for the future of voting rights.

Sean Morales-Doyle, Senior Director of Voting Rights & Elections at Brennan Center For Justice, Sara Rohani, Associate Counsel at Legal Defense Fund, and Anna Baldwin, Director of Voting Rights Litigation at Campaign Legal Center, examined the evolution of the Voting Rights Ac and the legal battles taking shape across the country.

Access to justice means ensuring our legal system is fair, accessible, and responsive to every community. At the 2026 IABA Annual Conference, our panel, “Access to Justice: Law, Policy, and Practice,” brought together perspectives from the courts, government, and public-interest advocacy to explore how we can make that promise a reality.

Moderated by Sai ساینا, the panel featured Judge Joanne D. Quiñones, Bitta Mostofi, and Elham Youssefian in a discussion about promoting fairness and accountability, safeguarding civil rights, and addressing the systemic and institutional barriers that prevent people from accessing meaningful legal protection.

One of the most timely conversations at the 2026 IABA Annual Conference focused on Immigration Policy: A Changing Landscape.

Melissa Chua, Director of the Immigrant Protection Unit at NYLAG; Lenni Benson, Distinguished Chair in Immigration and Human Rights Law at New York Law School; and Avideh Moussavian, Immigration Law and Policy Fellow at Cornell Law School, examined the rapidly changing policies affecting Iranian nationals, the challenges facing individuals and families, and practical strategies for navigating an increasingly complex immigration system.
