On May 12, 2026, Representative , along with Representative , introduced the Iranian Temporary Immigration Relief Act in the U.S. House of Representatives. The bill proposes a narrowly tailored Temporary Protected Status (TPS) framework for certain Iranian nationals impacted by the USCIS adjudication pause.

Since late 2025, USCIS has effectively halted adjudication of key immigration benefits for nationals of certain countries, leaving many individuals in prolonged legal and economic limbo without clear guidance or timelines.

This resource outlines the scope of the policy, its real-world consequences, ongoing litigation, and increasing congressional scrutiny. It also highlights what IABA is doing to advocate for and support affected individuals.

Last weekend, IABA hosted its Annual All-Boards Retreat in Las Vegas, Nevada, bringing together board members from across the country. The Retreat gave us time to connect, align on priorities, and think through how we continue to grow and support our community. On March 30, 2026, IABA led a coalition of organizations in issuing a letter to the Administration urging the immediate restoration of immigration benefit adjudications for Iranian nationals lawfully present in the United States. The letter highlights the significant disruption caused by recent pauses, which have impacted students, professionals, and families seeking to maintain lawful status, continue employment, and remain compliant with U.S. immigration requirements.

Restoring adjudications is a critical step toward ensuring stability, protecting livelihoods, and upholding the integrity of the legal immigration system.

Earlier this week, IABA joined a coalition of organizations in issuing a letter to the U.S. House Committee on Foreign Affairs urging expedited action on key Iran-related human rights legislation. Advancing this legislation is a meaningful step toward coordinated congressional action in support of human rights and internet freedom in Iran.
