3GDC - Washington DC Grandchildren of Holocaust Survivors As grandchildren of Holocaust survivors, 3GDC constitutes a living memorial that preserves and honor

3GDC empowers third-generation survivors in our nation’s capital and the greater Washington region by creating space to share our common experience and elevating the voice of our unique constituency. We pledge to stand together against anti-Semitism and hatred; never will we be bystanders in the face of injustice. We will reflect the diversity of third-generation survivors, build relationships wit

h communal and educational institutions in our area, and welcome
the participation of all those who support our mission. Ours is the bridge generation between the grandparents who helped raise and teach us and the future generations who will only know them through our memories. 3GDC will ensure that the lessons of the Holocaust and its stories of heroism and humanity will not only be passed down through books, art, or film but in the voices and memories of those whose families forever bear living witness to history.

Today, on Yom HaShoah, we remember. 🕯️

As grandchildren of survivors, memory is not distant; it is personal. We carry the stories, the resilience, and the legacy of those who endured the unimaginable and rebuilt their lives with courage and hope.

We honor the six million Jews who were murdered and uplift the voices of survivors whose strength continues to guide us. It is our responsibility to ensure their stories are never forgotten by sharing them, by listening, and by standing up against hatred in all its forms.

From our family to yours, wishing you all a Happy Passover from 3GDC

Today, on International Holocaust Remembrance Day, we pause to remember the six million Jews and the millions of others who were murdered in the Holocaust. We honor the lives that were taken, the communities that were destroyed, and the survivors who rebuilt in the face of unimaginable trauma.

As grandchildren of survivors, we carry stories that did not end with liberation. We inherit memory, resilience, and an enduring responsibility to bear witness. Our grandparents’ experiences shape who we are and compel us to ensure that their voices, lessons, and legacies are never silenced.

On this day, we recommit ourselves to remembrance, to education, and to speaking out against antisemitism and all forms of hatred. In doing so, we honor the past while working toward a more just and compassionate future.

May this day strengthen our resolve to remember, to speak up, and to ensure that the lessons of the Holocaust are never forgotten.

Combining evocative hand-drawn animation with revelatory interviews and verité footage, “Among Neighbors” examines Jewish Polish relations through the story of Gniewoszów, a small, rural town where Jews and Polish Catholics lived side by side for centuries. At its core, the film zeroes in on the last living Holocaust survivor from the town, and an aging eyewitness who saw Jews murdered there – not by N***s, but by her own Polish neighbors.

Today, all signs of Jewish life in the small town of Gniewoszów have vanished – even the Jewish tombstones disappeared, having been stolen from the destroyed cemetery. Now, a lifetime after the Holocaust, award-winning American filmmaker Yoav Potash (“Crime After Crime”, Sundance Film Festival) unearths the deepest mysteries of this town, revealing both the love and the hatred that local poles felt for their Jewish neighbors. The town’s oldest residents, the in the twilight of their days, divulge secrets held their entire lives, and their stories came to life in stunning animated scenes, accented by artful touches of magical realism.

Conversation with Director Yoav Potash, USC Shoah Foundation CEO and Foundation Chair Finci Viterbi, Robert J. Williams following the screening.
