For Fact-abulous Friday we wanted to drop some knowledge about the 45G tax credit. We talk about it a lot, but these graphics explain why we're so focused on getting the credit modernization bill passed.
We all know the cost of everything is up, and that affects railroads too, especially if you're talking about making track upgrades.
Consider the Everett Railroad in Pennsylvania. Look at what things cost in 2005 vs 2024.
🪨Ballast -- 2005, $6.35/ton; 2024, $15.55/ton; a 145% increase
🪵Ties -- 2005, $35.85 each; 2024, $70.60 each; a 97% increase
🔨Spikes -- 2005, $50.60/100-lb keg; 2024, $103/100-lb keg; a 102% increase
🦺Contracted Services -- 2005, $33/hour; 2024, $74/hour; a 127% increase
