Spring has sprung and our students have blossomed into engaged and excited readers!

Here is a sneak peak of all we’ve accomplished this school year:

167 students enrolled in Power Readers mentoring program
2,326 reading mentoring hours completed
57 StoryTime read-aloud events delivered
11,269 free books distributed
591 volunteers engaged
66 book drives completed

Thank you to S Christa McAuliffe & Highland Elementary Schools for selecting EWDC as your Kids for Kids grant recipients!

The Kids for Kids Fund Celebration is an opportunity to hear kids’ ideas about helping others and the issues they care about, ultimately awarding a local kid-serving nonprofit with $1,000 to support our communities.

Thank you to The Giving Square for leading this program and to the kids who put their brains and hearts into making this decision!

And that’s a wrap on the 2025-26 school year! 🎬🍿✨

Our Power Readers mentors and students had an amazing year together! Each session got their own End of Year Party where they celebrated their reading journeys with snacks, games, and – of course – books!

Thank you to all our mentors who spent the school year helping their mentees develop reading confidence and expand their social emotional skills!

We’re thrilled to welcome Jason Beckwith to our Board of Directors!

One week ago, we celebrated reading joy at Pearl Street Warehouse. The most memorable part of the evening was when Power Readers students – Zakari, Blayr, and Agatha – took to the stage. Their love for EWDC was infectious, as evidenced by everyone who raised a paddle to volunteer one hour with students like them.

You may know NPR for their Tiny Desk Concerts, but our students know them as StoryTime superstars!

Thank you to Stacey Foxwell from NPR for joining kindergarteners at J.O. Wilson for a read-aloud and coloring activity that teaches them it’s okay to make mistakes and how to make the most of them! Our students had a great time and left the StoryTime feeling uplifted and inspired!
