The Experiment Digital

The Experiment Digital is a fully-funded virtual exchange program for high school students and the Middle East.

Started in 2016, The Experiment Digital is sponsored by the Stevens Initiative, a partnership aimed to increase exchanges between youth in the U.S. Through this program, students from these regions take part in a cultural exchange to build friendships, mutual understanding, and global awareness. By participating in The Experiment Digital, students receive a Certificate
of Completion in leadership

and global issues analysis, access to the U.S. Department of State’s International Exchange Alumni network, unique project funding opportunities from the U.S. Department of State, and a $400 scholarship towards participation in one of The Experiment’s programs around the world.

Today, on Cinco de Mayo, we want to highlight our Mexican and Mexican-American participants. Cinco de Mayo celebrates the anniversary of the victory of Mexican forces over the French in the Battle of Puebla in 1862. With the exception of Puebla, Cinco de Mayo is more widely celebrated in the U.S. than in Mexico, and typically with parties and food. Learn about the wide range of traditional Mexican dishes from our participants in the English-Spanish Language Exchange, including a mole from Puebla: the heart of the Cinco de Mayo story! In Puebla, Cinco de Mayo is a major local holiday featuring parades, dances, music, and traditional dishes like mole.

Sharing about holidays, cuisine, and culture is a central part of every program with The Experiment Digital. It helps participants get a "taste" of life in another country, expanding their horizons and building mutual respect between cultures.

In honor of the UN English Language Day -AND- UN Spanish Language Day today, we want to celebrate our final week of The Experiment Digital English-Spanish Language Exchange with a couple of hello's and hola's from our participants and facilitators!

After 8 weeks of language lessons, small group dialogues, and activities ranging from storytelling to recipe sharing, we are proud to celebrate our new alumni during our program closing this Saturday. 🤗

✨What's The Experiment Digital's English-Spanish Language Exchange like? 🤔

🔹We're in week 5 of this 8-week virtual experience where 18 facilitators and 341 participants come together from 19 countries throughout Latin America and the U.S. for 1 mission: improving their language skills while connecting with peers via games, shared recipes, group challenges, and live calls. 🔹

🟢In just one week over 5,500 messages are sent through our workspace! 🙌🤩 Imagine the connections and learning taking place in each of these and multiply it by the thousands to get an idea of just how impactful virtual exchange can be.
