IWPR was founded in 1987 to meet the need for women-focused, policy-oriented research. By conducting rigorous data analyses, the social scientists at IWPR challenge the assumptions about women that typically underpin public debate, replacing rhetoric and stereotypes with accurate estimates of the costs and benefits of policy change. IWPR’s research has shifted the national conversation on a number of issues that affect a woman over the course of her lifetime, such as work and family; early care and education, higher education and job training; the gender wage gap and employment opportunities; poverty and income security; health and safety; and civic and political engagement.

IWPR Statement on Cornell University, LSU, and Title IX

Recent coverage of sexual assault cases at Cornell University and at Louisiana State University is a stark reminder of the ways our current systems continue to fail survivors. Repeated attacks on Title IX by the Trump administration have weakened protections for those who experience sexual violence, making it more difficult for survivors to come forward and feel supported and safe throughout the process.

IWPR stands in solidarity with all survivors who courageously speak out, the organizations providing essential support on the front lines, and the researchers and advocates working to bring the reality of these traumatic experiences to the forefront of public discourse. Together, they are advancing the evidence and solutions needed to create safer, more equitable environments for all.

Powerful conversations lead to action when we bring partners to the table.

Yesterday, we convened advocates, policymakers, and key leaders for Putting Maternal Health on the Table: Prioritizing a National Crisis. From congressional champions to maternal health experts, the gathering highlighted the urgency of the challenges facing mothers and families and the opportunities to drive meaningful progress.

New data: the gender wage gap narrowed in 2025 — but here's the full picture.

Women working full-time, year-round earned 83.9 cents for every dollar men earned in 2025, up from 80.6 cents in 2024. But this isn't the win it looks like on the surface. This happened because women's earnings grew faster than men's during a high-cost economy where every household member has to work as much as possible just to keep up.
Women still earn less than men, but their lower earnings grew at a higher rate.
