National wildlife refuges are the pit stops that make it possible for millions of birds to migrate in fall and spring. 🌱

Yellow warblers stop at refuges along the Atlantic coast, replenishing energy after a long trip across the Gulf of America.

rest at Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge (NM) on their journey from Canada to Mexico.

stop at Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge (DE) during their marathon from the Arctic to South America.

Without these stopover sites, birds couldn’t complete their journeys.

👀Did you know in 1935 there were only 70 left in the continental US?

(MT) was actually created to save them. And it WORKED🙌

Now there are THOUSANDS—living 20+ years of swan-ny bliss🦢

U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service calls this one of conservation's greatest achievements.

Success stories like these are possible because of support from people like you!

🗣️This is YOUR public land. These are YOUR refuges.

And wildlife thrive because people like you decided natural habitats should be protected.

From conserving habitat for seabirds on remote islands to (GA) preserving ancient swamps—every one of the nation’s 573 wildlife refuges is a testament to what's possible when we take action for wildlife.

Together, we can do even more🌎

🧭Did you know have a built-in compass?

They use the Earth’s magnetic field to hunt rodents hidden under deep snow 100+ feet away.

The method is called "mousing"👇

When the fox gets close, they leap up and dive headfirst into snow, using magnetic currents to measure the distance to its prey for accuracy🎯

What do and Elle Woods have in common? They both bend and snap😌💅

Black skimmers fly low over water, dragging their bottom bill through the surface until they FEEL a fish—then they snap💥

This way they can even hunt at night because they don't need to see their prey.

What, like it’s hard?✨

Your kitchen filter cleans like 2 cups of water at once. Wetlands purify MILLIONS of gallons🌊

They eat pollution, trap nasty runoff, and help provide clean drinking water for communities. Can your Brita do that?

in Georgia has been flexing this superpower for thousands of years.

While you're avoiding the cold, are THRIVING✨ (see a river otter’s belly track in the second pic!)

Some of their fave winter games👇

🛝Sliding down snowbanks on their bellies
😝Wrestling with siblings
🧊Diving through ice holes like furry torpedoes

Their thick fur traps air for insulation like a built-in wetsuit, so cold water is no problem!

Spot them living their best winter lives at (NY), (DE), and (AK).

🎉Happy ! Birds fly thousands of miles twice a year and wetlands are where they stop for snacks, naps, and to stretch their wings.

No wetlands = no pit stop = birds literally cannot complete the trip.

Kinda like if every gas station between Maine and Florida just disappeared😨

Shoutout to in New Mexico for being the ultimate destination for tens of thousands of geese, ducks, and cranes (like these )!
