Assayehegn Gerbu. Assayehegn was the beloved youngest son in the Gebru family. He died in a tragic car accident at the age of 18, leaving behind a wife and child. “My heart will weep for him all my life,” Emahoy once wrote. Her compositions “Last Tears Of A Deceased” and “Have You Seen Assayehegn?” are dedicated to his memory and his family. Emahoy’s handwritten draft of the latter composition from 1955 can be seen behind Assayehegn on the first slide.
