Project 21 The leading voice of black conservatives.

"75 years ago, it was fair to say that if you looked like me, your voting record would be useful and constructive in supporting other people who look like me," Project 21 Chairman Horace Cooper said on "CNN NewsNight."

"What's happened now is that a radical group of people who happen to look like me are holding these spots and even black Americans aren’t agreeing with them. We’ve seen black Americans say: 'We want more law enforcement in our communities, not less." But their Washington representatives? 'We want less law enforcement.' We’ve seen more black Americans challenge what is clearly a radical progressive orthodoxy."

“When you renew your driver’s license, you show ID. When you board a plane, you show ID. When you pick up a prescription, buy a firearm, open a bank account, or apply for government assistance — you show ID. Nobody calls that suppression. Nobody holds a press conference. Nobody cries about democracy dying. But the moment someone suggests you prove you’re an American citizen before voting in an American election? Suddenly it’s the end of the republic.”

"Though a range of Black leaders has criticized the high court's decision, their responses were not monolithic. Some Black conservatives, including members of Project 21, a leadership network of the National Center for Public Policy Research, sided with the high court's ruling.

"'The Constitution demands that government classifications based on race remain the exception — not the rule,' said Linda Lee Tarver, a Christian book author and a Project 21 ambassador and mentor, in a statement. 'The legacy of the Civil Rights Movement was to secure equality of opportunity and equal treatment under the law, not to institutionalize racial line-drawing as a default feature of our political system.'"

"Trying to equalize outcomes by restricting how prices are set doesn’t protect competition. It weakens it," writes Horace Cooper at Newsmax.

"That’s not a recipe for a healthier market. It’s a recipe for paralysis."

"In this rocky economy, legislators and regulators should make it easier for businesses to get consumers pricing discounts, not harder," write...

"Today the Virginia Supreme Court struck down the left's meretricious scheme to deny nearly half of the state representatives who share their values," says Project 21 Chairman Horace Cooper.

"Less than three weeks ago I made this very prediction. You can gerrymander and redistrict at any time for any reason, but you can’t cheat while doing so.

"The court found today that the process by which the referendum reached the ballot did not comply with constitutional requirements.

"This — along with the U..S. Supreme Court’s recent VRA ruling — dooms the chances of progressives to use the redistricting process as a tool to take control over the U.S. House in 2028.

"It’s time for the left to quit legislative machinations and come up with a program that has appeal to the American people."

Last week’s Supreme Court decision “directly attacks the racist stereotyping that has infected redistricting for too long,” writes Project 21's Curtis Hill at The Federalist.

“For decades, mapmakers have operated on the crude assumption that black voters form a monolithic bloc whose political preferences are dictated first and foremost, if not solely, by skin color. They have treated minority communities as predictable voting machines rather than as individuals with diverse views shaped by education, income, values, faith, and personal experience.”

"The Southern Poverty Law Center claims to fight hate, but its focus often causes the issue to grow," says Project 21's Jovani Patterson.

"When an organization is built around fighting hate, it does not just identify it; it expands, redefines, and amplifies it to justify its own existence. For instance, following Charlottesville, its donations nearly tripled from $51.8 million to $133.4 million after it capitalized on the 'fine people on both sides' narrative.

"This raises serious questions about incentives. When the labels disagreement as hate or misleads the public to amplify a narrative, it creates an environment where individuals feel justified in targeting those they oppose. Rather than reducing division, this rhetoric actively fuels it."

“The indictment against the SPLC is a long-overdue reckoning,” writes Curtis Hill at The Federalist. “And paired with this weekend’s assassination attempt, it should serve as a clear warning: Those who weaponize the language of justice while violating its core principles will ultimately answer for it in a court of law.”

“Our Constitution, which always contemplated a society that neither benefited nor harmed a citizen because of race, ultimately was formally amended in 1868 through the 14th Amendment to ensure that it was colorblind,” says Project 21 Chairman Horace Cooper, a former constitutional law professor.

“This week the Court recognized that our Constitution is colorblind when it comes to racial gerrymandering, and all state legislatures must adhere to this. I commend the Supreme Court as it continues to uphold this vital ‘colorblind’ policy — a policy that ensures no American is favored over another because of his or her race.

"To quote Justice Thomas, ‘Today’s decision should largely put an end to this “disastrous misadventure” in voting-rights jurisprudence.’ We at Project 21 continue to strive to make sure that all Americans — white, black or brown — live in an America that sees them as individuals and not as race-hued beings separated into groups.”
