Senate Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) has threatened to “use the nuclear option” to end the ability of all senators from having a voice in passing legislation through the Senate. Right now, 60 senators are required to bring legislation to the floor of the Senate. This is known as the “legislative filibuster.” Any bills that don’t meet the 60-vote threshold are not debated or voted on.
Senator Schumer may try to destroy the legislative threshold this week when he brings up the Corrupt Politicians Act (S.1) or a similar version of it. This act is a blatant power grab and an attempt to federalize election law by diminishing the U.S. Constitution which delegates election law to the state legislatures. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) has made it clear that he will not vote for this legislation, thereby making it nearly impossible for Sen. Schumer to succeed.
However, if Sen. Schumer kills the legislative filibuster, all he will need is 50 votes to pass this egregious legislation. All he will need is one Republican senator to cave to the Radical Left, leaving Vice President Kamala Harris to cast the deciding vote.
While our nation suffers from deep partisan divisions, the U.S. Senate must speak with a sober voice and pass legislation that is truly to the benefit of all American citizens.
