One week until the Red Wagon Luncheon on October 16! ❤️

Miss Mary’s Boutique will be popping up with beautifully handmade blankets, clothing, booties, and more for the little ones in your life. Whether you’re shopping for a grandchild, a baby shower gift, or a special little someone, you’ll find something made with love!

Every single skein of yarn used to create them is donated, and every piece is lovingly handmade by our talented volunteers. With both the materials and time generously donated, 100% of the proceeds from every purchase directly support our Beloved Babies Layette Program, helping us provide essential items to babies and families in need.

We’ve shared the many hands that help bring a Beloved Babies Layette to life: the blanket makers who lovingly make blankets by hand, the Medallers who inspect each one and attach a medal, the volunteers who provide quality control, the Guild members who pack each bag, and the donors whose generosity provides the supplies and funding to make it all possible.

But have you ever wondered what comes next?

At our recent Donuts & Distribution morning, we heard directly from some of the incredible partner agencies who pick up our layettes and toddler sacks and place them into the hands of mothers throughout the DC area.

These organizations are the vital link between the care packed here at CCS DC and the families we serve. Through their work in our community, they know where the need is and help ensure every layette and toddler sack reaches a family who can truly use it.

From the first stitch of a handmade blanket to the moment a layette reaches a family, it takes so many hands working together.

“Many hands make light work.”

So many people lend a hand to make our Beloved Babies Layette Program possible. From those who source, donate and organize the essentials, to our Blanket Makers who create items by hand, to the Guild members who come together to help pack each layette with care. Every person plays an integral part.

We’re especially grateful to the Kennedy and Boyle Guild members who gave their time to pack and prepare layettes this week just in time for our partner agencies to pick up and distribute throughout DC!

It takes a community to make this work possible, and we’re so thankful for every set of hands that helps bring it all together. Thank you, Kennedy & Boyle!!

🦷💙 Our Layette Program begins with babies, but the support doesn’t stop there. Through initiatives like our Toddler Sacks, we’re able to continue providing essentials for growing children and their families, from books and developmental materials to pajamas, hygiene items and more.
We’re so grateful to Remember the ToothFairy, a San Francisco-based nonprofit, for donating dental kits to include in our November Toddler Sacks. Their mission may be rooted across the country, but through this partnership, their generosity will directly support children and families right here in DC.

It’s a wonderful reminder of what’s possible when organizations come together around a shared goal: giving families the resources, care and support they need to thrive.

We’re counting down to one of our favorite traditions: the annual Red Wagon Luncheon! ❤️

This year, we’re thrilled to welcome Norah O’Donnell and Kate Andersen Brower as our featured guest speakers.

An Emmy Award-winning 60 Minutes correspondent and bestselling author, is also a longtime friend and supporter of the Christ Child Society of Washington, DC — and a familiar face at the Op Shop! Kate, a #1 New York Times bestselling author, is also one of our very own CCS DC members. Together, they collaborated on the new book We the Women: Hidden Heroes Who Shaped America.

We’re so grateful to Norah and Kate for lending their time and talents to this special day and supporting the work of CCS DC.

Proceeds from the Red Wagon Luncheon help support our Beloved Babies Layette Program, providing essential newborn items to thousands of mothers and babies in need throughout DC.

We can’t wait to gather on October 16! ❤️

As students go back to school, we’re reflecting on our summer camp and six inspiring weeks with Girls on the Rise.

The summer came to a close with a special showcase attended by families, Christ Child Society DC supporters, and staff—a celebration of everything these young women created and accomplished together.

Throughout the summer, they explored creativity, confidence, leadership, and community through workshops, mentorship, and shared experiences designed to help them recognize their potential and dream boldly about their futures.

We are so proud of each participant and deeply grateful to the families, volunteers, donors, and supporters who make Girls on the Rise possible.

The future is bright, and these girls are rising toward it with courage and confidence. 💙

Summer Volunteers, Lasting Impact 💛

For the past six weeks, our Beloved Babies Layette Program has been powered by an incredible group of student volunteers from Georgetown Visitation, Stone Ridge, Gonzaga, and Saint Bartholomew School.

Together, they organized supplies, prepared Toddler Sacks, packaged diapers, completed inventory projects, and assembled 500 clothing packets for our September distributions, helping ensure hundreds of local babies have the essentials they need.

What has inspired us most isn't just everything they accomplished—it's how many chose to come back, often bringing friends with them. Their compassion, leadership, and willingness to serve remind us that community service can be meaningful, joyful, and truly life-changing.

Thank you for spending part of your summer making a difference for children and families across our community. The future is bright because of young people like you.

💙 Swaddled in Love: A Year of Compassion in Action 💙

As another year of the Beloved Babies Layette Program comes to a close, we’re reflecting on the incredible impact made possible through our volunteers, donors, schools, students, and community partners.

This year, together we reached:
👶 3,589 newborns
🧸 700 toddlers
🤝 25 partner agencies across the Washington metropolitan area.

A heartfelt thank you to the members who faithfully packed every layette and toddler sack, the schools and service clubs that organized drives and volunteer projects, our 400+ Blanket Makers who lovingly create nearly 4,000 handmade blankets each year, our dedicated Medallers, and our delivery volunteers who help bring these gifts to families throughout our community.

Most importantly, thank you to our partner agencies who ensure every parent and child is welcomed with dignity, compassion, and care.

As Mary Virginia Merrick reminded us, “Nothing is too much.” That spirit continues to guide our work each and every day.
