Every blanket tells a story. 💙

We’re honored to spotlight Kathy Kempema, a dedicated blanket maker, medaller, and volunteer whose kindness continues to bring comfort and care to the families we serve.

What began as a simple act of knitting quickly became something much greater. In 2025, Kathy set a goal to complete one handmade blanket each month for our Beloved Babies program, and each one was created with extraordinary care and love. She also added handmade hearts to toddlers’ winter hats, a small detail that carried deep meaning.

Now, 2026 is already off to a beautiful start, with more blankets lovingly completed and many more to come.

Volunteers like Kathy remind us that even the smallest acts of care can make a lasting difference for babies, toddlers, and families across our community.

Are you following our Christ Child Society Inc. Girls on the Rise program on Instagram?

We are grateful to spotlight Georgea Polizos for sharing her time, energy, and passion with our Girls On The Rise students through weekly Greek dance instruction.

Each Wednesday, our 1st–3rd-grade girls are introduced to traditional Greek dancing and elements of Greek culture in a joyful and welcoming environment. For many students, this is a completely new experience — one that encourages confidence, curiosity, and connection.

What began as something unfamiliar has quickly become a meaningful and exciting part of their week.

We are deeply thankful to Georgea for creating a space where our girls can learn, grow, and experience the beauty of another culture through movement and community.

The future of service is bright. ☀️

This year, Stone Ridge Social Action students supported the Beloved Babies Layette Program through hands-on service, leadership, and compassion.

From organizing supplies and assembling layette bags to leading an Early Literacy Program for preschoolers, their work supported thousands of babies, mothers, and families across our community.

We are deeply grateful for these remarkable young women and proud to celebrate these graduating seniors.

Did you know…

✔️ The Christ Child Society was founded in DC in 1887 by Mary Virginia Merrick when she was just 21 years old.

✔️ Mary Virginia lived with a permanent spinal injury and led much of this work from her home, gathering friends, family, and parish members to sew layettes for newborns.

✔️ Today, Christ Child Society of DC provides more than 3,500 layette welcome kits each year to local mothers and newborns.

✔️ CCS DC now serves more than 10,500 children and families annually through programs including Beloved Babies, Girls on the Rise, Student Success, and more.

✔️ The Christ Child Opportunity Shop () in Georgetown has supported CCS DC’s mission for more than 90 years.

Members of the Posey Guild came together to celebrate springtime for Book Bunch at St. Anthony Catholic School. The children enjoyed creating crafts and looked forward to bringing their new books and colorful ornaments home. When asked about favorite colors, the majority replied “rainbow!!” 🌈

From gathering supplies and assembling goody bags over donuts after church on Sunday to showing up day-of, this was truly a team effort and such a beautiful reflection of the Christ Child Society DC mission in action.

Tax Day is a great time to start thinking about smarter giving for the year ahead. 💙

A Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) allows you to give directly from your IRA to a charity like Christ Child Society while potentially reducing your taxable income. You can make a QCD if you’re age 70 ½ or older, even if you have not yet started taking required minimum distributions.

It’s a simple, tax-efficient way to make an impact.

Happy Easter weekend 🐣🌸

We’re so grateful for the many members and friends in our community who give their time and heart to support CCS DC families and children.

Thank you to members from the following guilds: Billie O’Brien, Regis Boyle, Margo Cahill/Mary Hathway, Mary Kennedy, Mary Virginia Merrick, Ester Neill, and Mary Byrne Tumulty for delivering Easter baskets to our Families First children.

And special appreciation to The Sacred Heart of Mary Sodality for curating baskets for our CCS DC families in Families First to brighten their homes this spring.
