Potomac River Young Marines

Potomac River Young Marines A national 501c3 youth organization, that provides leadership development for kids age 8-18. But that’s only the beginning.

We are the Potomac River Young Marines, proudly based in Washington, D.C. – a unit recognized for excellence and achievement at the highest levels of our national program. In 2024, we were named Division Unit of the Year and honored with the Fulcrum Shield Award for our commitment to drug demand reduction. In 2025, one of our own rose to the top as Young Marine of the Year, proving that dedication

and discipline shape tomorrow’s leaders. The Young Marines is America’s premier youth leadership and service organization for boys and girls ages 8 through high school. Our mission is clear: to strengthen the lives of America’s youth through leadership, teamwork, and discipline while building character, honoring our veterans, serving our communities, and living a healthy, drug-free lifestyle. From day one, new recruits undergo challenging 26 hours of Recruit Training, where they master Young Marine history, customs, drill, physical fitness, and first aid. Every Young Marine has the chance to earn rank, wear the uniform with pride, and pursue awards and ribbons for leadership, academics, community service, swimming, and more. Our Program is not a scared straight program, we inspire kids to be better. Every drill, every event, every challenge is designed to push members to be better than they were yesterday. We believe in the motto: “If it doesn’t challenge you, it doesn’t change you.”

The Potomac River Young Marines are not here to blend in. We are here to teach kids to stand out, to step up, and to lead at a higher level than their peers. For us, “Challenge Accepted” is more than a slogan, it’s a way of life. It's what Young Marines do, It's who they are!

This past drill was awesome! Our Young Marines kicked off the day with a make-up PFT, while the rest of the unit participated in PT. The fun continued with a game of DDR Dodgeball.

We also took time to participate in our Red Ribbon Week Drawing Contest, giving our Young Marines an opportunity to showcase their creativity while promoting a drug-free lifestyle.

One of the highlights of the day was watching Mr. Richards take on the mile run in celebration of his birthday! With motivation from the Young Marines, he pushed through and finished strong.

Great job to all of our Young Marines for bringing energy, enthusiasm, and determination to another successful drill weekend! Semper Fidelis! 💪🇺🇸.

We can't wait to do it again!

The Young Marines marched in the National Memorial Day Parade last Saturday and took the time to honor the service members who gave it all for our freedom!

We want to give a special send-off to one of our Adult Volunteers, Mr. Burton. Mr. Burton is moving out of state, and we know he will do great things.

As a Young Marine Alumni, you made an impact that will be remembered. Thank you for taking the time to give back to the program that gave to you!

Mr. Burton, congratulations on your next chapter in life!

This past drill, the Young Marines worked hard, and they played hard!

Each drill, we do PT and emphasize putting in some sweat equity to discipline our bodies for the Physical Fitness Test.

To put the cherry on top, all of the usual leadership was at a Color Guard, so the junior YMs had to step up! They did an excellent job leading PT and the team-building games afterward!
