"Architecture is a team sport." 💭

For Adeniyi Onanuga, AIA, NCARB, NOMA, that mindset has been an important part of the licensure journey.

"A common quote amongst professionals is that ‘Architecture is a team sport,’ and many assume this to refer to project teams and the relationships between the many people working on a project- however I’ve now learned that Licensure is a team sport too. I’m especially thankful for the mentoring and guidance of past Drexel Students in my education and helping us with founding Drexel NOMAS chapter 3 years ago, I’m thankful to PhilaNOMA for providing mentors and helping fund my schooling through the Promising Student Scholarship, and I’m especially thankful for NOMA National for the network it has made including the collaboration and discount with Black Spectacles which allowed me to study for and take all of my AREs before graduation- allowing me to be one of 8 IPAL graduates Nationwide this year (2025)!

NOMA members have access to discounted study resources through our partnership with Black Spectacles.

The partnership supports NOMA’s 2030 Diversity Challenge, which aims to double the number of licensed African American architects by 2030.

Members can access the Black Spectacles discount through NOMA Connect, along with the Black Spectacles Content Community and NOMA ARE AXP Success Community.

Working toward licensure? NOMA ARE Scholarship applications are open through Friday, August 28. The scholarship provides financial assistance to NOMA Associates and Emerging Professionals completing their ARE and recognizes early-career contributions to the profession and community.
