What’s hidden behind your light switch? Every time we flip one on, we rarely ask whose hands pulled that energy from the earth or whose ancestral land paid the price. In our latest IF20 Anti-Racism Initiative webinar, “Spiritual Exploration of Possible Pathways for Providing Energy Security for All,” panelists from the Pacific, Africa, the Middle East, and Indigenous North America made the case that a just energy transition is not only a technical and fiscal project — it’s a moral, cultural, and spiritual one. From Islamic finance to women-led renewable enterprises, from Pasifika whole-of-life philosophy to decolonizing the green transition in Namibia, they showed why energy security for all is less a policy slogan than an ancient obligation. What’s the difference between showing up and making a difference? On the closing day of our policy meetings at Georgetown, the hard question wasn’t whether faith communities matter to the Sustainable Development Goals — it’s how they turn convening power into real impact. The answer that emerged: pick a few fights you can win, lead with an offer instead of an ask, and hold yourselves to the same standard of collaboration you ask of governments.

In the first day of our Georgetown meetings last week, we discussed the urgent need for collaboration among faith groups. Such interfaith collaboration is essential for policy work for the environment, disaster relief, and other pressing global challenges, and lies at the heart of our mission.

On May 26th, the G20 Interfaith Forum (IF20), in partnership with Georgetown University’s Berkley Center for Religion, Peace, and World Affairs and Brigham Young University’s International Center for Law and Religion Studies (ICLRS), convened a select group of scholars, practitioners, and policy experts in the historic Riggs Library at Georgetown University. Over the gathering, participants worked together to discuss, challenge, and refine a set of IF20 policy papers organized around three focus areas for the coming G20 cycle. This summary—the first in a four-part series—covers the opening focus area: economics and finance. Because the meetings were held under the Chatham House Rule to encourage candor, the discussion is presented thematically, and no remarks or quotations are attributed to individual participants.

What does it mean to keep AI human — and who gets left behind if we don’t?

On the sidelines of a major Muslim convention in Baltimore, the G20 Interfaith Forum sat down with leaders of Islamic humanitarian organizations to pressure-test our draft policy paper on AI and human dignity. The conversation moved fast from worry to action: job displacement, the concentration of power, AI access for the Global South, protecting children and genuine human relationships — and the conviction that faith communities have to act faster, together, and in the specific.
