The MusicianShip

The MusicianShip The MusicianShip is a 501(c)(3) charitable non-profit organization that facilitates music lessons, experiences and opportunities.

We empower youth and emerging musicians from historically marginalized communities throughout the DMV and beyond by providing free music education and enrichment programs that build skills and amplify talents, resulting in positive life-changing outcomes. While our mission is not exclusive to any one particular group, we are focused on at-risk youth as they benefit most from positive outreach and

music scholarship preparation. We are vetted and approved by the DC Public Schools as an official After-School service provider, allowing us to deliver free music instruction to students who may not otherwise have such opportunities. Our instructors are comprised of accomplished musicians and music educators who serve as positive role-models for children. Unlike many other music schools, our students benefit from sessions led by nationally and internationally recognized performers, including Dennis Chambers, Orianthi and our own Gregory Grainger. We create a healthy environment that fosters positive peer relationships, provides strong role models and builds self-esteem. Band performances instill in students a sense of pride and accomplishment, while contributing to the betterment of our communities. Your donations go further with The MusicianShip as our school is structured with minimal overhead to facilitate the most efficient and direct application of funds.

There is something so magical about looking back at where we started versus where we are today. Swipe through to reminisce on an incredible year of music, growth, and community at Friendship Southeast Academy 📸✨

From the very first day of rehearsals to show-stopping performances, these students have poured so much heart, energy, and personality into everything they touched (including channeling their inner characters for Matilda! 😉🎶).

Beyond the notes and the lyrics, this year was filled with endless laughter, breakthrough moments, and a beautiful community lifting each other up. We are incredibly proud of every single student for finding their voice and bringing so much joy to the stage.

Thank you to the students, dedicated instructors, and families who made this year unforgettable. We’re holding onto these memories for a long time! ❤️🎵

On June 16th, the brilliant young musicians of the Rocketship Rise Academy String Ensemble showed us what focused teamwork looks like! From counting out the rhythm together to mastering "Hot Cross Buns," these students are proving that big musical milestones are built one rehearsal at a time.

There’s nothing quite like the collective energy of a classroom when a song perfectly comes together—and that well-deserved applause at the end says it all! 👏❤️ We are so proud of their dedication, focus, and growth.

Summer is officially here, and we are gearing up for a season filled with rhythm, creativity, and community! 🥳

Our summer programs are designed to keep youth engaged, inspired, and learning through the power of music. Whether a student is picking up an instrument for the first time or leveling up the skills they built all year long, this summer is going to be one for the books. 📚✨

We’re bringing together incredible instructors, fun workshops, and a supportive space for students to find their voice and make lifelong friends.
