Calling All Local Artists – A Unique Opportunity with Mary's House for Older Adults, Inc.! 🏡

Mary’s House for Older Adults (MHFOA) is excited to announce a Call for Art for talented artists from Ward 7 and Ward 8! This is your chance to have your work permanently displayed in a space dedicated to creating a safe, inclusive, and welcoming home for older LGBTQ/SGL individuals.

The mission of Mary's House DC is to develop affordable, inclusive housing that eliminates the fear of discrimination or violence for LGBTQ/SGL elders. Beyond housing, Mary's House DC provides health and wellness programming, advocacy, and social services to ensure that older adults, particularly those in the LGBTQ/SGL community, can age with dignity, safety, and support.

This project is deeply rooted in the vision of Dr. Imani Woody, President and CEO of Mary's House DC. Inspired by personal experiences, Dr. Woody recognized the urgent need for safe spaces for LGBTQ/SGL elders, many of whom live alone, lack traditional support networks, and have been affected by the loss of their chosen family. Mary’s House DC stands as a beacon of community, care, and connection—and now, we’re inviting local artists to contribute to this meaningful mission.

What We’re Looking For:
🎨 Original two-dimensional works of art
🎨 Mediums accepted: Paintings, drawings, mixed media, prints, photographs, and fiber art
💰 Compensation: $300 - $1500 per piece

Selected artwork will be permanently displayed throughout Mary’s House DC!
Call for Art Dates: March 10 - March 21, 2025

WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH SPOTLIGHT

Lauren Joichin Nile is an accomplished author, keynote speaker, organizational development trainer, and retired attorney. She is the author of two books, On Race & Religion: My Journey from Jim Crow to Mysticism, and On Race and Racism: Humanity’s Bottom Line, as well as a host of essays and articles on a number of social and political issues.

In “On RACE and RELIGION: My Journey from Jim Crow to Mysticism,” author Lauren Joichin Nile tells two compelling stories in two memoirs, her racial memoir, and her spiritual memoir. Lauren’s racial memoir is the heartworming story of the journey from her childhood in the segregated South to her career as a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion trainer. Her spiritual memoir is the captivating account of her life-long journey to find the Creator. In her talk, Lauren will intersperse short readings of her book with personal commentary, ending with participant questions. A signed book will be gifted to the oldest and the youngest attendee! Join us for this engaging discussion!
