Hello ladies!
Hunger and food insecurity are global issues and to many a pandemic unto itself. Covid-19 has magnified this issue with many food banks and households struggling to weather the storm.
There was a recent post in my neighborhood page asking neighbors to donate to the local pantry. I cleared my kitchen and ended up with three boxes of food to donate. It made me tear up not just because I’m am blessed but because I knew all to well what it would feel like to get one of these boxes.
As a young single mom I faced food insecurity and the overwhelming weight of not knowing where my family’s next meal would come from. There was more than a few times that my neighborhood food pantry would get us through the week. I am thankful to my family, friends, neighbors, and strangers who gave us a helping hand when needed. That time feels so distant now but it the memory will never leave me.
In 2020, more than 50 million people in the US faced hunger, 17 million are children. Will you join me in a virtual food drive? Our individual efforts collectively can help fill the stomachs and hearts of families in need; making that daunting 50 million a little less.
WePower is hosting a virtual food drive from February 15 to March 15. Let’s see how much we can collect and donate.
Here is how you can get involved.
1. Locate your nearest food bank and find out their greatest need.
2. Collect five items or more or a $10 gift card.
3. Upload a photo of your items and/or gift card and the name of the food bank you are donating to.
WePower will make a monetary donation to one of the food banks chosen.
Comment below or heart this message if you want to join the drive. Let’s do this!!!!
