🎙️ In our final episode, Clarence and Melissa reminded us of the power of feedback, growth, and community.
Coming from a background, Clarence shared how his early experiences with feedback in Toastmasters helped him succeed not only in speech contests but also in his professional and personal life.
"Feedback is the breakfast of champions."
Giving feedback is not always easy—in fact, it is an art. Through Toastmasters International, we learn how to provide evaluations that are honest, constructive, and effective. Clarence fondly recalled how Jim Whitney (RIP) and Jill Lam contributed to his early growth. Jim's impact on the Toastmasters community was so profound that a club was later named in his honor—a testament to his generosity and dedication to helping others succeed.
From acting classes and storytelling workshops to improv theater and writing workshops, these are just some of the tools in the toolbox of our two-time conference champion, proving that great speaking is not just a talent—it is a craft that can be developed and refined.
Paraphrasing one of Clarence's reflections: the value of contests is not in the trophy itself—you can always buy a trophy at a store. The real purpose of competing is to become better than you were before. When you step onto the stage with the goal of learning and growing, rather than simply winning, that is when true growth begins.
