Did you know that “fast fashion” is the 2nd most polluting industry in the world and the 2nd highest user of water worldwide!?

Goods produced overseas from “fast fashion” industries are largely made by women and girls who often work without any kind of safe guarding and unfair wages.

A sustainable alternative is supporting organizations that have a community-driven development (CDD) approach which gives women representation, economic empowerment, fair treatment, fair wage jobs and a stronger voice.

Lets all be ethical consumers, lend our support and purchase sustainable products that help the environment, and provide economic empowerment for women in underserved communities.

GENDER INEQUALITIES are prevalent in all sectors of sustainable development.

WE NEED GENDER EQUALITY to achieve sustainable development, and this starts with SDG 1, poverty eradication.

THE ARTĒSAN MARKET supports economic empowerment for rural women who often live in remote areas and do not have access to essential services.

With income-generating, fair wage jobs, rural women can emerge from extreme poverty, have food security, and afford quality education for their children.

Empowering women in the economy is key to achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals. Investing in women's economic empowerment sets a direct path towards gender equality, poverty eradication, food security and inclusive economic growth. Women make enormous contributions to economies. [2]

Furthermore, investing in women’s empowerment can unlock human potential and tackle poverty on a multidimensional scale. For societies to thrive, women and girls must have equal access to education, healthcare, and technology. They must have equal control of resources, lands, and markets. And they must have equal rights and opportunities as peace-builders and leaders.[1]

Did you know: Half of the plastic we use annually is a SINGLE-USE item, which has an average lifespan of 12-15 minutes. Plastic can take 500 to 800 years to disintegrate and is harmful to wildlife.*

The plastic pandemic is only getting worse during C-19.*

We cannot lose sight of the long-term challenges facing the environment that is generated from excessive plastic waste.

United Nations Policy Brief:
Parts of Latin America have become the epicenter of the pandemic, exacerbated by weak social protection, fragmented health systems, and profound inequalities. As a result, Latin America is in the worst recession in a century. The 9.1% contracting GDP could push 45 million more people into poverty (totaling to 230 million) and 28 million more people into extreme poverty (totaling to 96 million), putting them at risk of undernutrition.

Among many factors, equality holds the key to a sustainable economic recovery. Gender equality and the empowerment of women need to be at the core of all development efforts.
