"I have seen what a laugh can do. It can transform almost unbearable tears into something bearable, even hopeful." — Bob Hope
Long after the makeshift platforms and foxholes of the South Pacific, Bob Hope's legacy endures. For over 50 years, he traveled to the front lines — to Korea, Vietnam, the Persian Gulf — bringing laughter, warmth, and the unmistakable message that America had not forgotten the men and women in uniform. He showed up where few others would, in far-from-home places where a familiar face meant everything.
His presence was a promise that no service member would feel invisible, that no sacrifice would go unwitnessed. And beside him through all of it was Dolores — his partner in life and in purpose, whose grace and devotion to this country's military families matched his own.
Every year, they met in the middle — Bob born on May 29, Dolores on May 27 — and celebrated together on May 28, a tradition as steady and devoted as the two of them. Today, we celebrate them as they always celebrated each other — together.
Through the Bob Hope Critical Assistance Program, their life's work has become a lifeline for military caregivers and families across the country. We share their legacy in every caregiver we support, every crisis we help a family navigate, every moment of hope that arrives when it's needed most.
Happy birthday, Bob and Dolores. We carry it forward.
